The Sundace Kid, Robert Redford, has passed away at the age of 89.
Good age for an actor, made some great films.
I agree, a credit to his profession in contrast with the shallowness of so many. I first saw him in Barefoot in the Park with, I think, Jane Fonda(?), as a rather innocent newly wed.
Apart from everything creditable in between, the last time I saw him was as an elderly retiree who finds ‘comfort’ with a similar female. Fonda again(?).
Best moment? When he and Butch (Paul Newman) prepare to make a death defying leap into a river at the bottom of a canyon he suddenly remembers he can’t swim and his mate (and they were mates) said ‘I wouldn’t worry, the fall will probably kill you’ . Classic. ![]()
Thanks Sundance for many great memories.
Unfortunately called Our Souls at Night (try saying it out loud) ![]()
Sweet film.
Oh that’s right, I had forgotten, apparently the British distributers tried to persuade the Yanks to change the title for the UK market, but they couldn’t see the point. Literally, they couldn’t see it. It’s a pronunciation thing.

One of my favorite Redford movies (actually one of my favorite movies, period) was one of his least watched, maybe? The Electric Horseman, with, again, Jane Fonda.
My favourite fim with Robert Redford is probably All the President’s Men.
Loved him ![]()
I had to ask my wife what the problem was with that title.
Maybe only a problem when using a S.E. England accent?
Oh that’s sad! ![]()
Everyone,
You may know he died last 24 hours. I happened to like his acting (particularly in The Sting) but some may not. What really pains me is the bile online about him. He was a decent man. This world has totally gone to the dogs and I am very glad to see the back of it in about 10 years…(and no, don’t reply to me about first world problems, I am privately up to my neck saving some unfortunate souls).
Coukd you copy and paste this into the other RR thread and close this post?. Wonderful tho’s he was, perhaps a single thread is enough?
Done.
Sorry. This is the first forum I have ever joined and don’t know the protocol. Last week got some great messages from our lords and masters, but one mistake makes me feel sad and distressed (I am old) and not wanting to contribute any more,
It’s not a mistake, please don’t feel bad about it.
If you haven’t used a forum before it takes time to understand how they work and people here will help you if you need it.
Don’t worry - it’s not the most serious transgression ever and duplicate threads get started all the time, though people are encouraged to check whether adding to an existing thread is more appropriate than starting a new one.
Didn’t want you to feel like that! It was more so that more people would read the posts if they were together. Otherwise people might only look at one and not the other.
Apologies if this upset you.
Please don’t worry about making ‘mistakes’, it isn’t at all, just keeping threads together. You are very welcome here and I hope you’ll keep posting! ![]()
Don’t worry about it, just get stuck in ![]()
This thread title was a bit cryptic, but topical ![]()
Extremely crass heading/remark. Not sure what this has to do with surviving in France. ![]()
Just to go with the flow - Loved Robert Redford.
.
Please forgive me if this has already been addressed. ![]()
