Any cheerful news today? (Nothing negative please! 🙂) (Part 2)

I don’t know honestly, I am missing him badly and keep talking to the dark jacket on his settee because I am reluctant to chuck it in the rubbish though it is unusable after being cut to pieces by the pompiers, and then time after time realise that he is not there
.
Also, because of what happened with Hades I am really worried that they might not let me have him back. He is an obedient dog except when his chasse nose takes over and his ears close, thus from time to time he needs a strong arm, no idea when my right one will fulfill that task again. My only hope is that a Beauceron at 11 years of age will be impossible to re-home.

A nice gesture, which others might follow ???

I haven’t fully grasped what this is about, tbh, Stella.

(very roughly) Michelin are giving back to the govt, money they received (via whatever means from the govt) and used for their business needs a few years ago
:+1:

They profited from the aid and are now in a position to give it back to the Govt which is now in need of funds itself
 !!!

Thank you. That sounds very noble, as you say, maybe others will follow.

We have fibre broadband, connected this morning . The technician arrived promptly at 8am. Wi-Fi speed has gone from 9 to 660!! The letter about the changeover was in the box when we arrived last Tuesday. Good job we decided to come over for Christmas and not stick to our original plan as the sides are going to be disconnected on the 31December and connection to the fibre after that will cost 1300 euros.

Back to England on Monday so we can get up to Sheffield ready to look after our grandson and welcome his new sibling .

Thanks for the update David, I hope I didn’t upset you by asking. Fingers crossed you’re arm will not take much longer to heal so Jules can come back very soon.

We’re fairly unimpressed with our fox terrier, Paco’s amazing ability to jump onto any work surface in the kitchen. He’s “stolen” croissants my wife put out for her breakfast, emptied jars of dried fruit, eaten whole jars of dog treats, freshly baked bread etc etc,.mostly at night when we’re asleep., and however much we may try to conceal them..So my wife drove a couple of hours today to buy a “paravent”, on sale via LBC. It’s a beautiful wrought iron, extremely heavy, folding screen that will hopefully keep Paco at bay when we’re not in the kitchen ourselves. He thinks it’s an appalling innovation, but we think it’s attractive and functional.

It looks lovely, but I do hope you are not woken at 3am by a huge crashing sound. A wily dog is a wily dog!

Can Paco jump - I’m sure he could get over this quite easily. Let’s wait for your next report George !

According to those more knowledgeable about the breed, fox terriers can apparently jump up to 1.5 m. Our paravent is 1.8m, so in theory, “Paco proof”. However such is his determination (he’s a terrier after all!) that I think we will shortly hear what Jane has suggested, namely a crashing noise at 3am, .as he tries to force his way into the kitchen whilst we’re asleep..

Love the screen solution!

A possible distraction for Paco at night might be to leave out one of those dog treat puzzles? One that would take him some time to conquer. Some suggestions here

I got a couple of these for our mutt while he was convalescing from a cruciate ligament op - the “conquering time” averaged 2 minutes. The time it took him to dismantle the whole thing was a bit longer, but not much. He was described as a “griffon mixte” which is Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen plus either terrier or poodle. We think Bertie had terrier in him - he was very smart. I suspect Paco would be the same.

It’s stopped raining since the early hours and the water is dissapearing fast into the water table which is being revived well for the summer to come. My son found yesterday whilst in Decathlon their ski hire is half the cost of up at the station they generally use for my grandson who obviously is still growing at 5 years old and doesn’t have his own like mum & dad, so anyone going skiing, check that out if you have hire costs to factor in especially for children.

There’s been a lot on BFM TV about your area, they’ve had reporters in Estagel and Rivesaltes by the Agly. I’m pleased it’s calming down now. We’ve had three days of solid rain but today the sky has some blue in it and the sun has reappeared, hopefully it will reach you tomorrow.

Did your DiL get on OK with the airport run?

Yes, no problems as she went down the dual carriageway that runs alongside the A9 and the airport entrance road is not near Rivesaltes itself. Getting back to Canet was OK too as she did not have to use any of the Gués across the Tet which are shut and then she came back to their village via the coast road.

George, would it be of any use if you put a piece of material -a net curtain or the like - hanging from the top of the paravent so that Paco can’t see what’s in the kitchen? (Obviously on the kitchen side of it so he can’t pull at it.)

That’s a very good suggestion, thank you, we will certainly try that.

I also wondered if you see / hear him launching himself at it if you could put some sort if hook on the wall that you could hook the screen to which would stop him knocking it over and potentially hurting himself of breaking stuff.

Great minds think alike! That’s exactly what we are going to do, for the same reasons you mentioned.
