Any cheerful news today? (Nothing negative please! šŸ™‚) (Part 2)

Maybe a secret admirer?

:rofl:hardly likely

The florist is unable to help. They will discuss with their delivery person… but it seems most likely it was bought by a customer and hand-delivered…

Interesting to know but I had no idea that I even qualified, especially after the extortionate claims from the CRDS people. But is it possible that they have already caused a drop in the electric price, possibly to all? I am sure I noticed a drop from 30 cents a whatever to 13 last bill I had. Am waiting for the next bill to check that so I won’t forget to send this.

You should have had an official French government email sent to you about the cheque energie, I got one and filed it under Engie for reference. The amount you state though is a lot more for a single person than is listed and what I got. Perhaps it is a refund for last year if you did not get the payment

I certainly have never had such a thing before, and have never had an email about this one. A letter with it explains what it is and why I have received it, my reported income last year.

Yes it is income based via your Avis

I may have mentioned before that my specialist shoulder man at the hospital told me the last time I was there that if I had not improved by the time of our next meeting, 2 months away, he would fit me with a prothese which would involve 2 or 3 nights in hospital. I was determined to avoid that to the extent that I might refuse because I had no-one I trusted to leave Jules with (one fanciful idea was to wear dark glasses and carry a white stick and tell them he was my assistance dog ) and would if necessary refuse the op.

The dreaded day arrived yesterday. My kine lady, Beatrice, has been on holiday for a couple of weeks so I have been practising every moment I could at home. As the doctor looked at the x-ray on his screen I broke the silence with ā€˜c’est beaucoup mieux man’om’ and, when he looked up at me, I shot my hand directly into the air in a gesture that would have got me on the podium with Uncle Adolf at Nurembourg. He was suitably surprised and asked me to do it again. Despite not being sure that I could I nevertheless gave it my best shot, even better. He only said ā€˜c’est finis’ and picked up his mike to tell his secretary to sign me off. :joy:

I was so pleased, not least because, not realising it was so hot I had brought Jules with me and, finding no shade in the car park, I had left the car locked but with all windows fully opened. In fact not a bad idea, because, unlike with halfway windows, they looked to a casual observer to be fully shut. He was fine and we celebrated together with a drink of water and a walk along the grass banks behind the cars.

Good news indeed. Only issue now is that you have to keep up with the exercises!

Yes, still got about a dozen sessions to go and even just now. Since the accident before Christmas I have inherited Fran’s toothbrush (ribbed shaft, easier to hold and stiffer bristles), hairbrush (stiffer spaced out bristles and easier to weald) and her shower stool. Thank you Darling. :joy:

Why are all these things relevant? Since falling I have never trusted myself in the shower (seems unseemly for me to ask Marie-Paule to hold me upright ) and have used Fran’s shower stool to have a shower once a week. Other days a full strip was at the sink (everything above the waist) and everything below it on the bidet. With trembling hands I kept stabbing myself in the face with my slippery toothbrush, and could not hold my steel comb straight when using it. All except the stool I shall continue with, see how I looked after her :innocent:

Also following on from yesterday’s performance I trusted myself upright in the shower today, not forgetting the two handholds for safety and it felt wonderful. One more thing. Until now I couldn’t dry my back with the towel in a gammy hand and arm, and bought myself a terry towelling dressing gown to do the business while wandering about for 10 minutes afterwards,

Not actually marching about with straight high steps while singing the Horst Wessel song, but certainly frequent straight arm salutes for a time when no-one is watching. Come to think of it, if no-one is watching, or listening, a little marching and singing might not come amiss.

Oh, and I have never used the commode, so no change there then.

I’m so very pleased to hear that an op won’t be necessary David. Just goes to show that all that hard work on exercises paid off. Time to celebrate with a nice drink of something alcoholic - but not too many just in case you fall over!

Love from Rachel

The swimming every day if you can manage it might help too, maybe wear arm bands for a bit just in case you feel a bit weak and can’t make it to shore

@DrMarkH …Scheveningen beach today:

Nothing alcoholic 'till dinner time preparations after Jules has eaten at 6. Then it is a nice cold kir with a drop of cassis and dry white wine from Alsace.
Porto blanc with dinner followed by cafe Calva(dos) to finish off with.

Funny you should say that because I am determined to have my first swim in the pond this afternoon. Last one was before my accident in December but at last I am sure I could do a gentle crawl now the shoulder is better, If not I can roll over and float on my back propelled by my feet. Just hand over hand up the strap to pull myself out afterwards might be a strain. Does anyone know if an Apple Watch is waterproof? If so I could leave that on in case of emergency.

Hmmm sounds like you like your kinĆ© therapist and literally did snything to keep going to her …

As if, I was booked for 20 by one doc then booked for another 30 by the other. I absolutely hate it. Mind you I have an idea that the truth drug I have been taking is not working. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Update is that, after walking Jules in the shade of the trees I stopped off on the way back and stripped off to lower myself into the pond. It was absolutely bloody freeeezing and spent some time hanging on to the start belt before launching myself to the far end. My right hand, swishing the water felt as it it was mid winter and I was making snowballs with it

My right arm worked fairly well in the crawl but it was not as powerful as the left of course and I did reach the far end a bit to the right. Not really a problem apart from the fact that some brambles have drooped towards the surface there and I had to have several goes to grab the strap. But, I did not drown and felt really good when I hauled myself out. :joy: Water temp was about 13C but felt much colder.

Water temps have not yet caught up with air temps.

Be careful young man, the UK weather forecaster bods have been warning people about thermal shock going swimming in the impending heatwave…

Our lovely factrice rang me while we were out, about a parcel. She couldn’t just leave it, so she offered to come back later. Very kind.

Keeping arms down by your sides is advised for those not used to cold water. If arms are raised the cold from the left armpit has a very direct route to the heart and can cause thickening of blood and a heart attack.

Not possible in the pond because the sloping ends are very slippery and not sure how deep it is between the ends because there is much detritus down there. I used to dredge now and again but stopped the process when I realised that it is the habitat of many species and the nursery of others, including the glorious dragonflies.

Following Wild Swimming advice I don’t jump or dive (would be dangerous anyway because I cut it out of solid rock and the sides have bits jutting out) but lower myself in holding onto the beam which runs across the end along which I exit the area. I then hold onto the belt which stretches across at each end with one arm while spending several minutes aclimatising myself to the cold, and it is always cold, even in summer because of the blessing of large trees which grow high above it. :joy:

Nearly forgot, more cheerful news yesterday as well. My new Lenovo laptop arrived dead on time from the big A.

Bought specifically to enable me to read Kindle books on it since I discovered that, through the Kindle app, I can read them on the PC which is much easier than on the little Kindle screen which I am increasingly annoyed with due to its flighty sensitivity, pages turn almost by breathing on them. The last Kindle that was reliable in this event was the very first one I bought years ago which had buttons each side to turn pages, touch screens have their downsides .

With the Laptop I will be able to read anywhere, such as up in my wonderful shady forest, instead of being tied to the PC in the kitchen. More :joy:, my cup runneth over.

Edit to add: With all that joy I forgot the first kine yesterday evening after Beatrice’s 2 week holiday, so had to send her a sorry message later in the evening when for no reason it suddenly hit me. She answered immediately with a smile and confirming the resumption on Monday instead.
