Any cheerful news today? (Nothing negative please! šŸ™‚) (Part 2)

It’ll be interesting to see the Eden Project in Cornwall and then the one they’re planning to develop in Morecambe next year, using the garden they’ve designed for this years Chelsea flower show.

I read about the Morecambe Eden Project, well done Tim Smits. I like his idea of encouraging kids and adults to grow their own food and for councils to dig up some pointless tarmac or concrete to have veg borders. It might help a little bit with the lack of drainage/water run-off problem.

We’ll go to Lands end but from what I can remember it was a bit crap. Sennen, just round the corner is/was much nicer. St Ives, Minack also on the list. As it wil be in early June hopefully it won’t be too busy :folded_hands:

Mention of Tate St Ives (which is a little gem!) reminded me that next door is Barbara Hepworth’s studio/museum. Don’t know if one get a combined ticket for the two thru the Tate.

We’ve been just once to Cornwall. Polperro and Padstow were both good, Eden project much less interesting than hoped. There are some interesting corners and good walks, but kind weather is essential.

@Debby_Wade I’d like to give a shout to St Just in Roseland. It’s probably just over an hour away from Liskeard but a beautiful place to visit.

Many thanks to you all, I really am looking forward to this trip, no matter the weather! It wouldn’t be my preferred time to go away but we ā€˜bail’ at this time as it’s far less stressful the plus side is, it’s usually much quieter

Disagree for several reasons, but most of all because I gained an interesting aesthetic insight there. The bus route from the car park is carefully constructed to hide views of the domes and then suddenly you come upon them and are gob-smacked, the senses can’t make sense of the scene for a second or two, but then rationality resumes control and you take pleasure in the immensity of it all. And that’s an authentic recreation of the Romantic/Kantian experience of the sublime (a much debased term in contemporary usage, particulalrly in sports journalism).

Mind you, the plants were pretty good too…

Perhaps it was raining too hard for us to take in the domes from the bus.

Today’s cheerful news is that I’ve found a beautiful geranium plant on my doorstep. Carefully wrapped in cellophane with the card from a local flower shop.. but no name of sender.. indeed not any name.

I’ve phoned around to check if someone’s died and this is an early tribute for the cemetery or whatever… but it seems that no-one has snuffed it… (which is cheerful news in itself)

I can’t think who might have sent it to us.. so I’m wondering if it is really meant for a neighbour and been delivered in error… fingers crossed someone’s sent us an early Christmas present… 'cos it is a lovely plant.

I’ll phone the shop tomorrow morning… :crossed_fingers:

That’s England for you - but at least it must have been dry inside…

Every day I try to do the New Yorker cartoon caption competition, but because I no longer have a subscription, I can’t submit actually my entries - so I think I’ll start posting them here instead.

Obviously everyone else is invited to join in. Together we can beat AI generated humour!

ā€œAnd yet again, the Nureyev attack stratagem is unsuccessfulā€¦ā€

Yes, it was. Being dry inside was the main attraction really, and although it was OK as a place to spend a whole day with 2 teenage children, it wasn’t blow-your-socks-off interesting (even without them).

The Eden Project is ridiculously expensive, but if you sign up to the Saturday 5km park run you get in free

My cheerful news today is that I found a cheque from the government for €98 in my box to spend on my next leccie bill. :joy: A nice thing to see ( was dreading the envelope before opening) the day before I have decided to tackle the impots. Right on cue they sent me another reminder without being asked, saved my checking back through my inbox.

Also the memories here of wonderful holidays in Cornwall over many years, we even tried to move there but the cottages too pricey and the hauliers uninterested.

Ia she looking forward to it?

Most places in the UK are silly prices, we were thinking of taking our youngest grand bratty to Lego Land, saw the ticket price and just bought him a Lego set instead :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

David you can have your electricity cheque paid direct to the energy suppliers, it makes one less thing to have to worry about. I received notification yesterday that Engie had received mine and had used it against the April payment which I had already noticed when the amount was different on my bank account. You just go online to do the transfer to EDF or whoever and it’s done. YOU still get notifications from the government when they issue the payment

(assuming you mean my mother not Di!) Sort of - she would rather stay here but she realises the necessity of care that I can’t provide, and I hope once she goes she will appreciate the ease of life and the increased social life.
