Any cheerful news today? (Nothing negative please! šŸ™‚) (Part 2)

My electricity usage has gone up by €15 in March, which is great news :slightly_smiling_face:…

Because my diesel bill has reduced from about €120 to zero

It’s good to note that our various ways of reducing usage/bills (or whatever) are reaping dividends… (no matter how small, each step is in the right direction…) :+1:

and I’m cheered to note that my Pension is up by Ā£6 per week… hurrah… it all adds up :+1: :+1:

I just missed out on that for this month because mine came yesterday and the increase dosn’t start until the 9th. The pound had dropped slightly too after the orange blob caused more upset worldwide.

Ah… I haven’t received the money yet… just the Letter advising me of my increase as from 7th April…

It will come to France automatically and takes its chances with exchange rates… :crossed_fingers:

It all works out OK over the full year… :+1:

Non - you need a license for the beggingue… not for the minky. City Ordinance 132R prohibits the beggingue.

Also City Ordinance 47B prohibits the playeeng of a musical instrument in a pubelic plaice for the purposes of commercial enterprise.

And try to do something about your filthy moeunky.

Indeed. The Minky is his own man.

Such a brilliantly funny man, what a shame his presence amongst us was so short and that I believe he may not have been so popular with his contemporaries.

I saw an old interview with Milligan and Secombe the other day and while talking about the Goons, Sellers name came up and Spike said off handedly ā€˜of course he is no longer with us, well he is no longer with anyone now’ and the pair laughed. It could have been their pure humour but I got an impression of an edge in it.

You’re right, I think he could be quite demanding and temperamental. But yes, a comic genius.

Yes all depends on your birth date as to when you get paid.

One of my favourite films of Sellers is The Party. I got it on DVD and every so often get it out for a good belly laugh at his antics.

Yes, Yes, Yes !!!

Our first bat is out of hibernation and snugly tucked behind our bedroom shutters clinging to the outside wall and stretching little limbs as it slumbers.
(a bit like a dog fidgeting while asleep  )

Mind you, this does mean we have to leave the shutters open for now… until it gets tooo hot for the bats to roost there during the day and they go somewhere cooler. Then we will breathe a sigh of relief and close the shutters against the heatwave…

I had abslutely nothing electric voluntarily switched on in February cos I was doing other things.

And yet, EDF said I still used 40kWh.

The only things plugged in were a tabletop freezer and a 99L (small) chest freezer.

Does 40kWh sound reasonable to run these for a month if they are left without being opened?

Or do I have a vampire plugged in to my power supply somewhere?

Yeah, roughly 0.6 kWh per device per day isn’t unreasonable, imo. I’d say that’s to be expected and you don’t have anything to worry about.

Do you know the make and model of each item? Can look up their user guides, if so, to see the expected electricity consumption.

I have an LG fridge/freezer with a DC inverter motor. It consumes 2kWh/week so 30kWh/month does seem high. Are the door seals in good order? Is the freezer free from ice?

Or do you have some Vampire lodgers who are partying all night?

They are both UK Aldi own branded so anyone’s guess. I would take a bet the 99L chest freezer is either a hotpoint or maybe a liebherr import purchased about 9 years back but only in use for about 3 years. The tabletop freezer also Aldi UK generic absolutely no idea who made it for them its capacity 15-18L. Purchased about 10 yrs back and used about 5years.

Both motors don’t seem to run much and don’t ice up hardly at all unless I leave the lid/door open a bit accidentslly.

A very troubled soul. He would have been 100 later this year were he still with us. Never quite got into the more extreme corners of his humour (such as Dr Strangelove) at all and didn’t really rate stuff like the Pink Panther - ok but a sense of him being only partly engaged.

Dr Strangelove was more of a straight acting role for him though (or roles, since he played three characters) - with some touches of absurdity - and more an invention of co-screenwriters Terry Southern and Peter George, and of course Stanley Kubrick.

I don’t think Sellers himself was really a satirist; his humour was more on the absurd / slapstick end of the spectrum. When Sellers had more control over the content of his films they definitely tended to veer in that direction, like the later Pink Panther films, and Fu Manchu.

I think he was undoubtedly a great comic character actor, but with his temperament he needed firm control from his directors (which he didn’t always get).

Our freezer is a Hotpoint (and our fridge, coincidentally, is a Liebherr!) so I just googled the model number. It’s a bit bigger than yours as it’s 228 litres, but it’s also energy rated as A+. Perhaps if yours has a lower energy rating then it could cost roughly the same to run despite being smaller.

I just checked our electricity consumption when last absent, about 3 kwh/day. American style fridge freezer, chest freezer and Internet, so just over 1kwh/day sounds good

Thats roughly what we use per day (3Kw) unless we put the water heater on.
