Any cheerful news today? (Nothing negative please! 🙂) (Part 2)

I was going to ask what pegs people used as the crappy plastic ones have gone brittle after a couple of years. Suggestions?

I’ve used wooden and plastic here over the years.
Neither stood up well to the weather… wood absorbed water and got dirty… plastic got brittle in the sunshine and some springs were naff.

Nowadays, plastic pegs are fine but I do bring them in off of the line… along with the dry laundry.

Last lot bought long before covid so they’re doing well… got 'em from LeClerc I think.

That happens very quickly here with many of the plastic types. We got some from Carrefour that are a slightly softer plastic that have not gone brittle after about 3 years. Probably specifically designed to be anti UV.
They look just like these.

I use soft grip pegs like these. Seem to last a good few years.

Similar to mine with soft plastic grips

May I humbly request that you setup a tripod with a trail camera on it the next time you hang washing out?

At the moment I have a bedsheet hanging out of my kitchen veranda window in the calm and warm sunshine, and a duvet cover is over the bird bar to the west and is almost dry even though it won’t see the sun for several hours yet, so a short video would complete my feeling of schadenfreude very nicely. :joy:

Sorry, I hope all is well again with you nevertheless.

No hoopoes as yet… But we do have a number of wood pigeons in the garden. They are like A380s in comparison with the littlies ! We have a columnar conifer and they come back to nest in it every year. They share the tree with the squirrel occasionally, and the goldfinches often. One at a time sits in a tree or comes to graze on the grass and help itself to seeds and water.

Cheerful probably… we are finally, soon, getting a house number and potentially some new lieu-dit panneaux. Just when delivery vans have got to know exactly where we are.

Definitely Cheerful :+1: :crossed_fingers:

Pegs: Minky Sure Grip especially the Jumbo are (relatively,) solar resistant and the Jumbo especially good for heavy items and very wind resistant.

I think Minky have a Royal Warrant.

Either buy in UK at Morrisons/Asda or Robert Dyas depending on the branch, or watch amazon uk an germany who have reasonable prices once or twice a year. Target price for the Jumbo 12pack £4 to £4.50 or so, more for the regular SureGrip type (non Jumbo) but 48 in a pack so target £6.50-£8. Worth every penny.

Why can’t I imagine Camilla pegging out her laundry?

I think it’s some of the male members of that family that enjoy pegging… out their laundry

I was thinking of getting one, but for the wildlife, not my antics.

Do you have a license for your minky ?

Current A price £14.99 for 80. So a purchase on its way I feel. (Not jumbo)

Our EDF direct debit reduced by 14 euros this month going forward, a rare occurrence of price reduction by a utility supplier. Might buy some clothes pegs.

Wow, not likely to happen over here in the UK where we sing “The only way is up!!” Buy some manly stainless steel clothes pegs with the saving :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
