Yes! I once saw Rory Gallagher drag his Stratocaster across the stage by its lead, in Manchester! Did you see the state of his guitar!? But worth a bomb now he’s gone. :france:

YAY! Its actually raining quite hard and not something an overhead bird might have dropped on us.Won’t last long, never does down here but it will wet the plants so I don’t have to use the hose and wash my car which looks like a mobile mole hill currently

Heaving it down now, thought it would be a fart in a bag but no, At least the garden is getting some but none of my windows as the overhang of the roof comes out about a metre and shelters them all

La France has decided to refund €47 of my Taxe Foncières for 2026 “for relief of crop losses” due to the heatwaves.

We had rain as well today - at last - maybe 1cm according to OH. The next few days look set to be wet on and off as well, just as a friend arrives from the UK.

Well its certainly cooled it a bit outside this morning although the rain stopped before 6pm last night and the sun appeared as usual.

I don’t mind dings and dents that have arisen naturally from actual use, especially on a well-worn guitar owned by a professional artist, but I hate the artificial relics that guitar makers put out. Rounding off the fretboard to make it nicer to play is one thing, but just bashing it up in the factory to make it look old is daft IMHO.

I had a cataract in my left eye removed yesterday and just took the eye patch off. Much better. I can’t say I experienced much discomfort from the eye because somehow I managed to wrench my back yesterday (just a muscle) and the pain from that made me forget about my eye. All is well this morning and now that the surgeon has practiced on my left eye I’ll let him have a go on my right eye.

I had both done within a few weeks of each other. The second time they did a slightly different pre-op to the first but I felt like someone in a dystopian film laid in line with three other folks, wrapped in our duvets waiting to go in one at a time and how narrow the gurneys are, I nearly rolled off twice . At least here germ control is strict, absolutely everything off and put on paper jammies, Charlotte and foot covers on, my sister in the UK only had to remove her coat and nothing else!

I had both of mine done at the same time, no discomfort and no problems at all. They did cover me with a paper sheet and I had to wear a pair of bug eye covers until bedtime then I had to swap to ones with dark lense. The night ones I had to wear for a few nights, it was to stop me rubbing or touching my eyes as I slept.

Reminds me of a long gone Mancunian comedian, Ken Platt, whose catchphrase was ‘I’ll not tek me cort off, I’m not stopping’

I had to do that plus take a betadine shower that morning. Seemed excessive for an eye, but I suppose it is to protect the operating theater in general, which protects everyone using it regardless of the seriousness of the injury.

Yes forgot the betadine bath and hair wash and also was not allowed to touch the hospital floor with my feet, hence the wheelchair. They fitted a lovely airblowing tube under my duvet and chin to keep me cool and stuck those little pads on for the heart monitor which I suppose is standard practice when you start to decay

And whole hospital and all other patients. France has much lower incidence of MRSA thankfully so I have no problem dousing myself in betadine.

I think cataract ops are one of the wonders of modern medicine, and so reliable now and with such great results for such as simple op.

Yes, totally agree and the light show is amazing. I think I have something coming back as it gets a bit cloudy in one eye so made an appointment with the opthal this morning for end of December which is not too long a wait. Both my parents had their cataracts re-grow again so maybe genetic but that was in the days of wearing dark glasses for weeks on end.

I was hugely disappointed not to have that as was having a retinal membrane removed at same time, so that meant I missed out. Others have said is was great too.

My right eye started getting cloudy, apparently it isn’t unusual, a bit like a cloudy headlight. I went for a quick laser polish, numbing eye drops first and within seconds both eyes crystal clear again. I’ve had no problems since, the surgeon said it happens but they’ve no real idea why. So you may just need a quick polish.
