Any cheerful news today? (Nothing negative please! šŸ™‚) (Part 2)

@oldbutnonthewiser
So Your Cheerful News is that ā€œwe have progressedā€ā€¦ phew, thank heavens for that

Sorry about that, still worth watching as a very eventful race

But the point would be [quote=ā€œAncient_Mariner, post:149, topic:51803, full:trueā€]

I still enjoy the Pythons, but some aspects have held up much better than others. OTOH I watched of few episodes of It Ain’t Half Ot Mum last year and found my toes curling. I’m far from being a snowflake, but some things are best enjoyed inside ones own head.

But the point would be that that program and many very much like it (think of Alf Garnett ) were of there time…Times change people evolve , can you remember any LGBTQ in the 60s 70s ,womans rights was slowly evolving. Times change we move on but the memories remain and there is no reason to hide inside your head , watch the TV you will find plenty of programs revisiting the past, they even have a title for it Modern History.

Well, I am pleased that you are pleased and that you are now able to express your opinion on forums like this. At this point I believe we are supposed to give a grateful thanks to the Americans for inventing the internet and the world wide web.
Yes, I know the Americans did not invent the internet, but they do not know that and we are supposed to thank them otherwise they will makes us or wherever the 50 something state.

And heaven (choose your own hearafter) forbid, actually wear a suit and tie. :astonished:

Having been brought up a catholic and attended a infants school run by Nuns (the evilest sadistic people on earth) I am a non-believer but take your point and should I have an audience with the Devil aka Trump I believe is his representative on earth, I will of course wear a suit. (as if )

But hopefully not one with 1980’s style ā€˜power dressing’ padded shoulders.

Actually I think Trump’s suits and overcoat shoulders are becoming even wider. As he’s already stopped making sense, maybe he’ll end up looking like an elderly version of David Byrne.

More seriously, Trumps current 1980’s style suits are the present day equiv of autocrats from earlier times (and Jacob RM’s) love of post-War DB suits with wing lapels (turn back time through tailoring). Suits from earlier decades and dodgy moustaches or bizarre haircuts are other tropes of these dangerous political throwbacks.

So called fashionable suits of today don’t look good. The only winner’s are the fashion industry who have convinced young, and not so young men, that less material in a suit looks good. Tight fitting and short in every way they look a mess.
Give me a well fitted suit, preferably double breasted with a turned trouser bottom any day.
The material needed to produce a ā€˜classic’ suit of old would surely make at least two today.

Did you have something like this in mind…?

Especially for @Stella…

With the help of the same friends who helped us move our belongings into shipping containers almost two months ago now, we successfully moved everything into our new house this weekend… It was lots of hard work and heavy lifting - even with a diable - but the shipping containers are now empty, so that’s €380 p/month saved.

We’ve got another week left in our Airbnb so now need to unpack everything over the coming days, but at least the heavy stuff is in the right rooms.

It’s beautiful.
Roasting hot outside, so I’m doing the first close cut on the grass as it’s bone dry.
After tomorrow, we have 5 days of rain according to Meteo France, which is still cheerful as the more we get in the reservoirs here the better for summer.

Hmm, being serious for a moment, I don’t like the cut of the trousers, they’re far less elegant than those of the original 1940 zoot suits, which were more tapered. Here’s the real thing - Cab Calloway at peak zoot suit:
