Clear blue skies here but not melting the snow. Weâre forecast-11 tonight
Havenât been posting to this thread recently since almost all personal news has been anything but cheerful. HOWEVER, I completely forgot to post on Friday the best news of the week, which was that we now have doors downstairs! We can close a door on the outside world
Fabulous to get out and about⊠sunny skies, no windâŠ
Had a glorious walk to The BinsâŠ
I âphoned a friendâ and invited her along, as itâs always easier to work the dratted things if there are 2 of youâŠ
Seems almost as if the whole world and his wife were out making the most of the day⊠conversations ranged from how to milk goats to recipes for tartiflette and everything in betweenâŠ
That got the memories flooding back of being in Russia in -36. A shiver ran down my spine. At least itâs more comfortable in Jura.
As opposed to âtoastâ.
Just separated the liquor from the berries with our sloe gin an have about 3.5 litres. Also drained the apple vodka and have 2.5 litres of that. They will go back to the shed for a few months before racking and bottling.
The sloe gin has lots of fruit flavours this year, and seems quite rich. The vodka is still a bit harsh to tell, and needs time to mellow.
Beautiful day here today, took our dog for a walk on the park on the island in the middle of the river Sarth in Le Mans, almost a spring day and gardening this afternoon.
I think this is cheerful news - of a sort anyway!
On Friday, I got a message saying my operation on Thursday had been cancelled so that led to a panicky weekend. However, today I heard that I still go into hospital on Thursday (BUT at a civilised time, thank goodness) and the op is now Friday. This is a massive relief as I had pictures of waiting weeks with my condition deteriorating
Just realised that Thursday is La Chandeleur. Iâm going to miss it unfortunately but could the rest of you have some extra pancakes on my behalf please?
After a rather grim few days one way and another, the long awaited foot man arrived to look after Franâs feet and cut her toenails. He was mobbed at the door by the pack and revealed that they could smell his Rhodesian Ridgeback.
A very nice chatty chap he had her back to normal in no time while admiring her ballet dancerâs feet. Carefully cleaned away the dead bits on her corn and filed all the toes. The non-reimbursable fee of 45 euros was cheerfully reduced to 40 because he had no change for a tenner.
As I escorted him to the gate I warned him of Julesâ howl which all visitors are treated to as he hates them to leave him .As soon as he was through the gate he didnât let us down and went into full âne me quitte pasâ lament till he was out of sight.
If I must
Lemon and sugar
After making cakes a couple of times, Iâve just bought a bundt tin.
I made pho, this is before the broth went in the kitchen smelt fabulously of charred ginger onion and galangal all dayâŠ
And I made snow skin custard mooncakes
I would love the recipie
I hope you like warmed apricot jam with Cointreau on them.
I would be happy with one of the six bowlâs of salad, I love salads, all thatâs missing is a couple of sliced eggs and some cheddar
