It was a lot of work and I wouldn’t recommend anybody doing it unless they had a significant portfolio and the means (languages and access to information) to be able to follow it through.
As it was we managed to liquidate our UK assets and invest them here in France relatively painlessly over the course of a few years…
Can be done but for most people it probably isn’t worth it.

It worked out pretty well.
But I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a significant portfolio of savings/investment and you are confident of digging into the nitty-gritty of what you need to do.
Even without taking into account fees we would have paid to financial advisors we are well ahead of the game.
It isn’t difficult if you have the language skills and the time to dig into the detail.
