At least I'll get ALD

In principle, you can’t start the process while holding a TdSS.

I do and I’m working on the assumption that my rights die with the end of the S1.

Yes they do, but if you have one already then it “should” be simpler and hopefully just a matter of changing codes.

I read this on the CPAM website:

La prise en charge de votre maladie en ALD vous ouvre un certain nombre de droits comme des soins mieux remboursés (prise en charge à 100 % du montant remboursable par l’Assurance Maladie),

Does that mean that they only pay up to the amount that they normally use to calculate the 70%, not necessarily all that it actually costs, e.g. higher charges for specialists?

It does indeed. The hospital expenses for my surgery were fully covered, the surgeon’s costs were only partially covered and a fairly small part at that.

I agree with John, you only get the base de remboursement -which for some things can be way off the actual costs now.

My friends wasted months pursuing the WARP route so if your Prefecture sounds at all dubious about it when they eventually answer your email, I would go for Plan B.

You probably know this but you will also need written confirmation from the MAE that you have surrendered your TSS. Getting that confirmation can take weeks, yet without it you can’t apply for an ordinary carte de séjour.

I THINK I’ve got my British husband Irish citizenship (still waiting for the post-ceremony certificate of naturalization) so am hoping to avoid all this palaver when I retire next year.

OH is a holder of the ALD Award (  ) for Heart… and, as it happens, I’ve just come off the phone… having received a convoluted call about his trip to hospital in November…

Long and short of it… bring this, that… and the other… plus a cheque for 96,80 euro…
Why the payment?, I gently ask, mentioning he is ALD … ah, bring it just in case… (what’s it for? )… it’s the cost of the surgeon/specialist…

So, fair enough… he’ll take whatever is needed, just in case…

Between ALD and our Mutuelle… it’s possibly all covered… but I might need to pay the surgeon upfront and claim back… it’s a wait and see situation…

All of our specialists are secteur 2, so there is always a dépassement to pay. Hospital ones refunded by our hospital policy, the rest not. But generally excellent consultants so it doesn)t upset us as we think good value for the price.

Ours are the same and it’s the one part of the process that on the whole is fairly transparent. In advance of the op we get a statement from the surgeon as to what he will be charging for the op and what the state will be refunding and therefore what we will pay. If I remember correctly his fee covers the cost of everyone in the operating theatre so we are not getting additional bills for anaesthetist or theatre nurses.

absolutely… !!!

@Helenochka I’ve just been talking to the consular team in the embassy and they say there has been a few bumps in the road but they hadn’t heard of any outright refusals. Did your colleagues engage with the embassy for support?

Hi John

No, for some reason they didn’t contact the Embassy.

In both cases, the individuals concerned were told by the Prefecture that their application for WARP had been “classé sans suite” and that they should apply for “admission exceptionnelle”.

One did and was granted a 1-year permit. But I suspect they’re not bothered because they have an application for EU citizenship pending.

The other decided to ignore the advice to apply for admission exceptionnelle and decided instead to apply for a residence permit as the spouse of an Irish national. They’ve been told it will be granted but they’ve been waiting since Christmas.

A third person- the British husband of a colleague - did get a WARP relatively quickly. But his wife is French. And that seemed to make all the difference with the Strasbourg prefecture.

Pity.
Anyway, they’re meeting with the MOI tomorrow and they’re going to raise it so hopefully all will be good for me in January. I’ll be taking a few email addresses and phone numbers with me when I retire

Excellent. I suspect the Strasbourg Prefecture is being particularly difficult or thick or something. Admittedly the queues outside have become horrendous in recent months so maybe they’re overwhelmed.
Hopefully whichever Prefecture you deal with will be a bit more efficient and better informed.

I’m feeling very mildly optimistic (fatal, I know) that my re-entry into healthcare might be a bit less painful than I thought.

CPAM wrote to me a few weeks before my S1 expired, asking me to update on my situation and I replied that I’d be finishing work and taking my pension, staying in France as an inactif.

Very quickly, they wrote back asking for proof of pension and a copy of my S1. Obviously I can’t provide the latter but I sent my S1 refusal letter, so we’ll see how it goes.

Obviously, there’s potentially a long way between here and success but I’m actually quite impressed by the speed of response.

Well, the letter from the MAE arrived today, confirming the return of my TdSS and that I’m eligible for a WARP so here goes with trying to get an appointment at Poitiers :crossed_fingers:

Excellent! I hope they do give you a WARP (please let me know so I can tell the Brits working for international orgs in Strasbourg). But if they don’t, at least you have your Plan B.

Well, the latest PSA test moves me one step closer to radiotherapy but I’m not really any closer to having my attestation de droits re-established so there may well be a crunch point coming where I need to decide if I’m paying for my treatment or looking at other options. Ho hum.

There is a group called remain in france together that has on their team a woman called Justine Wallington. She is well connected and has been successful in escalating cases. Might be worth a try?

Thanks Jane, we’ve been in touch but it’s all a bit complicated and I suspect there’s not a lot we can do until after the CdS rendez-vous in June. I’m hoping that will be the key to unlocking everything.

I wasn’t too concerned as I wasn’t expecting therapy until around the end of the year but things have moved up a bit.
