Attestation to visit

We also have a friend coming before too long. If I’m going to have to get an attestation, I’d better get a move on…

OMG, wait till I see my eldest son and son-in-law, they both voted Leave.
We have our youngest sons wedding in September down here and we could have done without all this. Anyone got any quick answers as what we need to do, family are staying with us but others are in gites, hotels etc.
Thanks for the link Graham.

I did read somewhere that a letter of invite would be enough, or the booking confirmation of where you are staying,

The French government web site still says that a hotel booking or attestation d’accueil is necessary.

Has anybody had visitors and were they asked for an attestation?

I tend to think that is the letter of the law, nobody knows if French border staff will actually enforce it, but the risk is they might suddenly get instructions to so and if visitors don’t have one in hand then its “go home” ! Just yet another Brexit unknown

Does anybody have experience of how this is working in practice?
We have friends coming in about four weeks and just wonder if they need to pay heed to this as yet another hoop long with reduced travel options, tests and restrictions on what they can load up with!

My parents flew into Limoges on Friday and were only asked for proof of vaccination, we made sure they had all the relevant documents ‘just in case’ so, an ‘invite’ from me showing arrival / departure dates, my address (signed as their daughter…) in place of the ‘attestation d’accueil’, from the Mairie, they also had the ‘déclaration sur l’honneur’ , proof of funds to cover their stay and relevant insurance details. Hope this helps…

My family came through the tunnel on Saturday and were also only asked for vaccination proof. I had made sure they had all the aforementioned documents just in case and for three of them they had quite a large dossier but nothing else was asked for. Note that I did not get an attestation from the Mairie, just sent them an invitation letter and ensured they brought proof of funds to cover.

I reckon with a queue of a couple of hundred cars to process border control is only going to make life difficult if you look like you might be planning on overstaying your welcome.

Our son came to visit at the weekend. No-one at the airport asked for anything except passport and vaccination certificate. In any case I believe the new provision gives solvency (calculated at €125 per day of stay) as an alternative, so one person I know just flashed their credit cards!

Neither of our daughters were asked for anything other than passport and vaccination certificates when they flew in separately to Bergerac and Toulouse airports.

Our daughter flew in to Limoges last week and was only asked for Passport and vaccination certificate, she also had the Attestation Sur l’honneur regarding no Covid contact but it wasn’t asked for.

No requirement at the border for us, just passport and covid double jab cert.

@strudball

Having just read through this… it seems that A d’Accueil is part of the “application for visa” process
and therefore NOT applicable to British nationals visiting France within the 90/180 days 'cos they don’t need a visa to do that…

Take a look and see what you think… (are your friends BNationals?)

@Corona …I did say friends visiting!
@Stella …Take a look and see what you think… (are your friends BNationals? Yes they are and I saw this report but it was contradicted by statements on FR gov site, and also on HMRC pages, it seems very unclear.

Sadly, there is a whole list of misunderstandings/ambiguous-explanations on a wide variety of topics (since Brexit) … which is really stressful at the moment…

A letter or email from you, inviting your friends… should do the trick, just in case someone does ask to see “something”…

The French in that article makes for pretty poor reading. Was it some kind of machine translation from an English version? I would have expected better from an alleged news site in French.
