Are you in the Causse? I am, on the edge of the (rock) plateau of Gramat. Solid rock underfoot
I’m not convinced that it’s autumn any more, but still… Just after the sun had set this evening, when I went out for more logs for the stove. Somerton, Oxfordshire, looking back at our cottage (if you see debris, it’s because the guttering is being replaced).
I came through that on a motorbike 5 years ago on my way from England… was on L-plates so had to take this twisty turny way South. It included the Millevache and yes I can confirm that I think I saw every cow in France there. Luckily it was 2-3 degrees mostly.
I thought it related to cows, when we first visited… and I found myself eagerly looking and counting, as we went here and there on our rally.
But a pal who was travelling with us broke the spell… explaining that it was due to the number of pools/water sources (call them what you will…).
He thought I was a mad English lady…
(fancy me thinking that vaches meant cows…
)
All taken on a short , 20 minute dog walk around some fields alongside the Lot - These photos are my suggestions for source material for OH’s paintings, whereas w hen I use a camera for my own creative ends it’s wholly different, but still an intermediate step in a creative process
It’s snowing here this morning - I think that effectively moves us into winter now.
Yes ! Jurassic limestone.
Not autumn, but winter photography. I forgot to bring a vase of spiky fragon (petit houx, Ruscus aculeatus) inside and left it out overnight. The ceramic vase split from top to bottom and this is what it left behind…!
Went into town in the cold, wet and nasty Charente Maritime rain to get some extra blankets, and came home in the rapidly dimming light to this….
It was a bit frightening as the journey home was slow, 30/35kph, and it was -1°C . Dangerous stuff…!
No frost on the fields this morning, but the bird bath is frozen solid… glorious pink tinge in the skies…
