Baffling mysteries

Why do people not check for spelling mistakes before they post on SF?

And why do others often make sarcastic remarks if you do.
Big fingers on phone screen and predictive text are often to blame.

Thats become a lot worse recently, whatever the update was its a pain as it alters words spelled correctly and substitutes other words.

Think of my spelling not as an error, but as a nod to Joyce, Shakespeare, and other greats who bent language to their will. Of course, unlike them, I’m just trying to type faster than my brain can spell.

And you are not 400 years old :joy:

Re Handbags. When I fell into the river I lost my large treats bag, ripped from over my head so I later went looking for another locally.

Only one came near what I wanted and that was too small but I bought it anyway. So I searched on Amazon and found pages of suitable bags, with long enough straps to enable throwing over my head and one arm, less likely to be wrenched off, with several zipped pockets. Perfect for treats and phone when out walking the dogs.

But all of them listed as ā€˜womens’ handbags’. :astonished:
The best, at 12€ arrives tomorrow. :joy: Will it affect the way I walk?

BTW @SuePJ , spellchecking, yes one of my bugbears too, I make multiple mistakes even though I type both keyboard and phone with my finger tips rather than the thumbs I see so many with smarties use. The last job is to read through twice and correct, but even then a day later I see one or two I have missed. Fortunately I can still correct them then on this site. :grinning:

I turned off predictive text years ago! Far too infuriating.

How about a waistline money belt?

Then you fall foul of this thread.

I carried a large chunk of black market dollars in a money belt back home from Brazil (only way to get my hard earned savings out in the 1970s). But I wore the belt UNDER my clothing. A dog treat bag I would wear ON TOP OF my clothing and unzipped - I’m not sure I would look like a tourist - especially with an Airedale in tow

Why do directors insist on remaking films/series when the original was wonderful?

Pride and Prejudice: only one version worth watching Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle

The Four Seasons: Alan Alda’s wonderful production

Facebook mystery here for someone to explain.
I have been using messenger for a long time now and recently so regular posts between me and the Presidente of Phoenix regarding our little Setter, Galys.
Suddenly, 2 days ago, all of these messages disappeared, the last one visible was from October last year. This is absolutely no good at all for my memory. Can anybody explain this message from Meta please, and how I can get back to the records I need? :

Messenger upgraded the security of this chat. New messages and calls are secured with end-to-end encryption.

It doesn’t affect anyone else just this one person who swears she has done nothing and I am sure I haven’t.

My brain does not do spells. The rest of me has daily sex, no.

Unfortunately, dyslexia.

Would that be beef or duckie ?
