Blueberry Recipes

I just posted in the gardening thread but I think my request for recipes is probably more appropriate here!

Blueberries, wonderful high polyphenol low glycemic index fruit so dont spoil them with sugar. Great with natural yoghurt.

I do have them with yoghurt as it happens but I can only eat so many like that!

Birchermüesli.

I freeze them and add to later in the year.

My blueberry bushes provide about a handful each for me and various children which is all the blackbirds leave us, they get most of them (ditto red and white currants, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries…)

I keep frozen blueberries in the freezer for pancakes and American muffins all year round.

old net curtains would come to the rescue, cover the bushes & tie at the bottom. Birds cannot get to the fruit. Did that in Scotland for years or we wouldnt have any red/white/black currants. Even the gooseberries were not safe.

The bushes that really get stripped by birds here are the redcurrants and whitecurrants. I use a commercial equivalent of net curtains - enviromesh - and it seems to work really well.

I was just to ‘tight’ to spend money on a fruitcage or commercial netting. Recycling old net curtains was a very cheap alternative. My veg plot looked like a ‘ghost gathering’ after dark, but it was only for a few weeks each year.

Sounds most effective to me! I didn’t have any old net curtains to use, unfortunately

I like seeing the birds eating them and feel it’s mean to plant fruit bushes and trees and deprive the birds. I’m glad they get them, their lives are hard enough because of us.

I always leave a bush available for the birds so we all get the benefit!
