I am currently reading a series of books written by Philippa Gregory, and a struck by her description of the behaviour of that increasingly tyrannical Henry VIII.
Today’s NYT article by Thomas Friedman:
“Trump’s behavior has become so reckless, so self-absorbed, so obviously contrary to American interests — as even Republicans have long defined them, let alone Democrats — that the question must be asked: Is America now being ruled by a mad king?”
Both became despots surrounded only by sycophantic enablers. History may repeat itself but we already know how this must end.
I suspect far from having lost his mind, he’s following directions and having a lot of fun on the way (and making incredible amounts of wealth). This looks carefully calculated to break up NATO just as Brexit was intended to make cracks in the EU.
I hope the rest of the world at least begins to build their/our futures on the basis that America no longer exists. The rest of the world put together can harm the US in ways they haven’t even imagined yet.
And they could harm us in ways we do imagine. But for the present, we must assume that they are a rogue state, deliberately trying to break up world order at the behest of those more clever than their leaders.
In the short term yes, but if we end up at war, due to NATO incursions etc things will be far worse so it’s time to begin leaving the US out. Could start with the reason why the EU are heading towards an EU digital currency to reduce and remove the Visa company from all transactions made by card. This is an over simplification but the point is there. EU Google alternative? EU YouTube alternative etc etc.
He’s invited the Pope to join the Board of Peace - I really hope he doesn’t. So far, from what I’ve seen, unsavoury people or countries have agreed and countries like Norway and France have declined. Trump’s making bullying noises.
