Breturn after Brexit

Who’s the bloke far right in that poster? If I had thought he had done some acting I’d have sworn it was Bill Jewry, aka Alvin Stardust.

Soylent Green was an American production, the man on the right is Chuck Connors.

Yep - The Rifleman, Flipper and Branded. We used to love watching Chuck Connors as kids on the TV

Spoiler alert.

Never been shown on mainstream TV in UK I think or at least I have never seen it advertised. Maybe too controversial these days. Bit like The Devils we sneaked out of school to go and watch and has been hidden away since and never shown again

Thank you, I remember him in The Rifleman, is that him? It must be the angle of the photo as I have never seen the likeness before.

If you mean Soylent Green, yes it has - I’ve certainly seen it on TV and Google says it has been broadcast on BBC 2.

it’s currently available on Apple TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Sky.

I showed it to my pupils :slightly_smiling_face:

Beg to apologise then as I have never seen since the cinema in the 70’s. It’s not available on my Netflix as that comes from the US and not the European offerings. Anyhow, don’t think I really want to see it again to be honest. The Last Ship series had that kind of dystopian horror when they were using the dead bodies of the plague victims to fuel the power stations so a select few could remain in power.

No I wouldn’t say it is a “must see” movie unless you are a particular fan of dystopian sci-fi!

Also Charlton Heston can’t act for toffee.

But Edward G Robinson was superb. The scene where he goes to the euthanasia clinic and dies listening to Vivaldi knowing exactly what will happen to him is superb. The actor himself had terminal cancer at the time and died just a few days after filming.

I have seen it twice on UK TV.

yes I forgot to mention him, he was good.

I definitely saw it on mainstream T.V. when I saw it Netflix etc wasn’t even dreamt of and I would not have gone to the cinema to see it.
It must have been at least 35 years ago.

Solyent Green was made from human flesh I seem to recall.

Two months but, yes, it was his last film before dying of bladder cancer.

Is it really suitable for schoolchildren?

Correct, he acts for money. :slightly_smiling_face:

Perfectly suitable for people some of whom are old enough to vote, pay taxes etc. the aim is to get them thinking and talking.

I’ve seen it suggested that Britain might get pre-brexit terms. Can’t read the grauniad article.

Unless his estate have sold out to an AI firm I don’t think he acts for anything these days, aside from maybe some worms…
