I haven’t read it yet but I’ll try to report back. But I don’t see how Barnier can know that as he isn’t a negotiator any more.
There’s another article of the interview on the Guardian.
His reminisces of a weekend with Stanley Johnson are interesting. I do agree though about ‘how can he know’, but perhaps having been chief negotiator he knows the sentiment of those on the inside.
Well, the Lib Dems are saying the unsayable.
Which is what they always did, of course, knowing they would never have to actually fulfil any promises made. But they are saying it now.
Corona … Can you clarify your gripe about French Wiring colour codes ..My understanding is that the Grid level connections are harmonised in the EU . If you are referring to the wiring internal within a machine ..even as simple as a washing machine , but after the main switch that’s a different situation.
Now, this would be interesting…
I’m half surprised Farage isn’t already in attack mode.
But there is a yearning gulf between “won’t rule out putting something on the manifesto” and us rejoining the EU.
House wiring specifically, the rainbow of colours whereas we have adapted to the new colours.
We in Ireland have been extremely lucky with our choices of President ..at least for the last 40 years … . In particular Michael D has left a very clear trail.
Again what do you mean ?. I can only assume you are referring to a switched power conductor in a 3 way switch … ..which goes only between two switches .
You cannot have failed to observe the range of colours sold in brico sheds?
Hmm, do you think it might be remotely possible Farage, having cynically screwed the UK, realises they would need the EU trade boost to be in any way able to pay the reform bills when in government?
Or maybe rather, doesn’t want to remind everyone it was he, who was Mr Brexit?
Or, maybe, because his raison d’être is to be anti-establishment so, the last thing he wants is to become the establishment (especially when we see what a clusterf**k the Reform run councils are being) and needs something to rail against to keep the grift going.
Wouldn’t make an ounce of difference to farage supporters. Easier to con people than explaining to them they have been conned. 8.3 billion people in the world, we don’t need them all.
Yes absolutely, though the others ? Brexit was a 2% approx margin. Ah, I’m forgetting the truly representative UK electoral system of first past the post!
though in this last election it seems to be working - only 5 MP’s ! ![]()
Modern French Wiring Color Code
If you are working on a modern French home (built or completely rewired after 1970), the wiring colors will follow the standard European harmonization rules. Here is the breakdown of the current French wiring color code:
- Phase / Live (La Phase): Usually Red (Rouge), Brown (Brun), or Black (Noir). The phase wire carries the active electrical current from the main supply to your appliances or light fixtures. While red is the most common color for phase wires in residential socket outlets, brown and black are frequently used in multi-way switching or three-phase systems.
- Neutral (Le Neutre): Strictly Blue (Bleu). The neutral wire completes the electrical circuit, returning the current back to the source. Under modern regulations, blue must exclusively be used for the neutral wire.
- Earth / Ground (La Terre): Strictly Green and Yellow striped (Vert et Jaune). The earth wire is a safety feature that directs stray electrical currents safely into the ground, preventing electric shocks. It must never be used for any other purpose.
- Switch / Pilot Wires (Fils de Navette / Retour): Often Purple (Violet), Orange (Orange), or White (Blanc). These colors are used for specific control circuits, such as two-way light switches (va-et-vient) or thermostat connections, to avoid confusing them with the main power lines.
These are the colours you should expect to see in Brico Depo .. however you might also see the Yellow and Red and Green ..which were the older 3 phase wires ..and they would be available for Repairs ..not renovations but repairs .. If you were fixing a old 3 phase water pump where one of the lines ..say the Yellow had broken ..it should be replaced with a new Yellow ..unless you were also going to replace the other 2 phases all the way back to the Distribution board.
I think the first paragraph illustrates my point, phase should only be one colour since harmonisation. Black is an American phase colour. Red is old, and should only be in old installations.
Phase1 should be brown, for three phase L2 should be black and L3 grey.
@badger would know if French sparkies are doing new installations with blue+brown or blue+red. I have blue+brown (my new work), blue+black and blue+red reflecting the fact that there have clearly been revisions to the wiring over the years.
Personally I think black should have been avoided as a phase colour given the old UK black=neutral standard, but no-one asked me ![]()
I wonder if it was copied from an AI response, hence the incorrect American spelling of colour too.
Corona .. the three phase colours are needed in a 3 phase system..because there are 3 live wires . And there has to be consistency ..otherwise motors will rotate in reverse and transformers explode. However once a single phase has been isolated to serve a property and brought in by EdF or Enedis to their terminal box and fuse , we can revert to only one colour ..invariably Brown. for the Phase
Gareth it was copy and pasted ..not AI generated ..After I read and confirmed the details
Dan, I understand 3 phase and the colours, it is the only place black should occur otherwise in a single phase installation one could believe it to be a two or three phase install. Enedis came out last year to correct my installation as it had phase and neutral reversed when “they” fitted the Linky, or didn’t verify phase and neutral being the correct colours going into the correct sockets in the main disconnector. Thanks to Badger for his assistance and patience during the ordeal.
