Bridget Bardot RIP

This article throws her very commendable caring for animals into sharp relief compared to her lack of empathy for other human beings by her support for NF/RN etc.

Nah… I reckon your childhood was obviously seriously lacking..

My parents/grandparents ensured that us kids grew up knowing all about Fred Astaire and his like as well as whatever uptodate music/cinema … in fact Fred’s dancing is what inspired me… and our own daughter also adores the golden-oldies of each generation..

And outside France. Her name came up with several of similsr campaigns in the UK.

They were weak immitations of Bardot in the (cat-suited) roles you are probably thinking of

As a young teenager that distinction did not matter to me.

We do still have Ursula Undress

One of my border collie Riley’s claims to fame was being stroked by Brigitte Bardot in 2009/2010, when we were briefly staying near Nice before buying our place in France.

I’m the same age as you @ChrisMann and I well remember a couple of things about Ms Bardot :slightly_smiling_face:

You must have been a precocious child.

Doctor At Sea, as I recall. Dirk Bogarde as the Dr. I’m of the generation that saw it at the cinema …

Yes but you should still acknowledge her far right views, anti Muslim, anti LGBT, her constant fines. Anyone else would have been sent down for constant offending. Ridiculous

That’s a little unfair - I thought that’s exactly what I did?

Unfortunately there do seem to be two v different BBs, the one with wholly unacceptable views on the issues as you list, and one with saintly views on protecting animals.

Isn’t she the one who said something like ā€œthe more I see of men the more I like animalsā€?

BB rose to fame in the 1950s and was an international icon throughout the 60s (and beyond) . I don’t understand how someone now in their 60s/70s could be unaware of her.
Hmm… then again, maybe it’s more of a gender thing. (old school binary genders)

Some of those views coincided, one might say, as in her criticism of the Muslim practice of killing sheep without stunning them and her complaint that France was being taken over by Islam (for which she was fined, according to Wikipedia), and her similar criticism of Jewish slaughter practices.

I’d say those criticisms of religious practices were entirely consistent with her view on animal welfare.

makes me feel ancient too! Stood next to her in a shop called Quorum that sold Ossie Clarke’s dresses withCelia Birtwell’s fabulous prints…I digress. She was tiny, filthy hair, a few spots, and ravishingly pretty!!

Yes. Lousy politics, wonderful animal foundation….

Because she became a right wing racist perhaps?

Well, at least she had views, and the courage to voice them despite criticism. Free speech is becoming history, so do we not need people to buck that? Furthermore, where is the balance, how often do you hear of people being criticised for being far left?! No, I’m not a fascist!
