Flash news update - I watched the film again now it’s out on 4K BluRay, and Ugarte does actually say the letters of transit were signed by General Weygand not de Gaulle! His accent makes it a little tricky to hear but on the new restoration you can hear that he says “Weygand”.

Confirmation here: "Casablanca," Admiral Darlan, and Rick's Letters of Transit

Yes, everytime I use clingfilm LOL

Excellent news. Now all they have to do is get Rick to say “Play it again, Sam”.

As a personal aside, when Signor Ferrari slaps at a fly in the Blue Parrot it always crosses my mind that a fly would not even dare to enter Rick’s American Cafe. Smiles.

The scenery takes me back to the Sheffield I remember fondly. The film clip of Steel City at the start of the fill is magical, why did they fill in the hole in the road?
Seen high on a hillside is Shirecliffe College where I spent 5 years learning my construction skills on block release from the day job working for tge public works department of Sheffield Corporation. There is another scene shot on West Street of the dole office, employment exchange if you were posh. My girlfriend and now wife of 47 years was a civil servant employed there and the stories she tells of the verbal abuse from ‘customers’ queuing to sign on are legendary. The staff had no protection and she was once very lucky to duck just in time to avoid being struck by a litter bin!
Like so many towns and cities they are unrecognizable from 40/50 years ago but thanks to the Full Monty I can revisit my youth spent in Sheffield at any time. I think I feel another viewing coming on.

Havn’t they or are making a sequel I read somewhere. Obviously moving on from that time to the present one??

I remember the hole in the road from the late 70s. My brother went to uni in Sheffield and I visited several times. Must admit I didn’t know it had been filled in until you mentioned it. Shame.

These 4 are very Italian, endearing and funny. Nice little trips. All you need is Netflix.fr. The movies are in Italian with English subtitles possible (Not sure why the links have come out peculiar đŸ«€)

@ hairbear. Me too, do you remember the aquarium in there?

Since you mentioned Mel Brookes, I have a deep affection for blazing saddles.

One Christmas I had just finished building a computer with DVD drive inside, and bought a couple of dvds so we could watch films at home for the first time. The dvds were Robin Hood (fun action film - not men in tights) and blazing saddles, which I’d remembered as hilarious but no other details. Christmas day my mother is over and after lunch we settled down to watch, gets to the campfire scene and she proclaimed that there was nothing funny in that, at which point we couldn’t contain ourselves. Still a great film.

Speaking about holes in roads, this is Norwich 1988.

The road collapsed into an old chalk mine.

Beautiful music and movie
