I read the exact opposite  I’m just being cautious anyway and I hope they do roll out boosters in September. My two AZs plus a nice mRNA and a :mask: should see me through the winter

There’s massive regional and local variations, think the degree of worry should depend on where you are. Certainly even tho’ jabbed, I’d avoid the coasts right now.

Sadly, it seems the world and his wife are on the move… for their holidays… regardless.

To be fair people have been confined for so long, that I can at least partially understand their need for a holiday, even though we don’t need one (being retired and living in a beautiful rural part of France). I usually resent our tourists, not least because they drive so slowly and their camper vans are harder to overtake. Nevertheless, this year I feel sorry for them cos the weather’s so crap and they have such a small window for their annual holiday (yes, I know it’s much longer than in the UK or the US but these aren’t social models that I’d advocate)

It may be that in my later years I’m discovering empathy…

Interesting article…

65.1% of the French population has had at least one dose and 54.3% are fully vaccinated… Both figures remain lower than the British equivalents of 69% and 57%, respectively – but France is administering first doses at nearly 10 times the rate of Britain and second doses at nearly double the rate.

I still haven’t seen a convincing explanation of why the UK rate of vaccinations has declined so rapidly - and has been declining continuously (virtually unreported) since late May. Hitting the ‘vaccine-hesitancy’ barrier has now been revealed as an inadequate explanation - the UK has among the lowest levels of vaccine-hesitancy in Europe - far lower than France, which has among the highest - yet it has been unable to sustain anywhere near the vaccination rates seen in many European countries.

The article’s speculation that some countries’ success is due to incentivising vaccination is also unconvincing, by the way, because the dates for the various countries are mixed up.

Muddled, inconsistant messaging? Preferring banal slogans to decisive action? Lack of a clear plan?

Also, too much emphasis on photo-ops in dynamic poses wearing workers’ clothing or playing with equipment that he doesn’t know how to use (this includes the mechanisms of government).

Lastly, when has Johnson ever really rolled up his sleeves?

Probably when he gave the UK a good fisting

I reckon we’ve just hit the core of refuseniks - nearly 47 million 1st doses is getting on for 88-89% of the adult population (16 & 17 year olds only just starting).

30-35k a day is still a million a month though so we’ve not dried up completely.

I’m really not sure about that explanation though Billy. The UK rate started to decline late May, remember, when only about 55% of the population had had first doses - France has hit 65% without any decline, and with (according to other research) far more refuseniks; also, the UK’s second-dose rate has fallen to half that of France - equally hard to explain with the refusenik theory.

Yeah, except first doses first began to slow late March/Early April when 2nd doses started to take off. If fact they rose from ~150k/day at the beginning of May to ~250k/day by late May, started to tail off into the beginning of June, took off again and then started a (terminal ?) decline mid June.

Maybe it’s because they had to send all those doses to the EU as a result of the court case. Also, the figures give a proportion of the ‘adult population’ which makes the vaccination figures look better than France. If they counted children like France does, I think France would have better figures.

Sadly, the lack in general education, let alone an understanding of the nuances of statistics means that Johnson et al are easily able to manipulate the figures to their own advantage.

If and when they are ever caught out doing such thing they simply ignore the facts.

They are untouchable.

Yup, one rule for them one one for everyone else…

And that one same day that another report was made about one of his ministers (Alok Sharma) visiting 30 foreign lands (including 6 on the so called Red list) by air and then not needing to isolate on his return…

And she won’t buy an electric car because her understanding of their range is several years out of date. How the woman got the job one can only speculate - and we will!
