I’m about to retire to France at the young age of 63 & I’m thinking about dipping my toe in the dating arena as I’ve been a widow for a while now. I’m finding there are not many trustworthy dating sites out there & most want to just take your money for no benefit to you. I’ve seen a site called “https://francedating.expatica.com/” & was wondering if anyone can vouch for it being genuine or not? Are there any reputable sites for France singles? It’s 45 years since I was dating & things are very different in 2025.

Hello, where are you from? What’s your French like? Things may be rather different here, from what you are used to. I’d have thought that doing activities eg bridge or hiking or something else where you meet people and chat might be a better bet. Good luck anyway

I’m from West Yorkshire so have a strong accent. I can play Bridge & do a lot of hiking, so that’s a good start. Can speak French reasonably but not fluent. Just need to expand the vocabulary really.
Hi Burnie, no I have no experience but I wish you all the luck you deserve in your search. A W Yorkshire accent I am sure is a big big plus!!!

Can’t help with Dating sites… but reiterate what others have said…
When you get here, check out all the local activities, clubs, associations.
Hopefully you will find some which match your own hobbies/interests… and thus you will be mixing with similarly minded people and (hopefully) make new friends and… who knows… dating might well follow…

lol It maybe an asset when speaking German but I don’t think it helps with trying on a sexy French accent.
All I know is that suddenly single women of your sort of age get snapped up here! Many new relationships in our village, but usually formed via activities that both parties enjoy.
There are usually a lot more women than men at most activities involving seniors.
In the older age bracket I agree. But oddly round here seem to be quite a few free floating 60+ men.

Forget Expatica. Absolute rubbish. I just opened your link and there are many there that were there ten years ago. As you surmise, most of these sites just want money and regurgitate profiles long after they have left. Tinder is the same. If you want to use a dating site in france, then maybe Meetig is the most honest. But yes, try moving around outside dating sites.
There are many women 60+ in France quite openly looking for new relationships. So make the best of it. I did and have been well rewarded!
My tip: show French women respect. Do this and they are putty in your hands, I promise.

To me ‘widow’ usually refers to a woman, so I’d agree with your assumption.
