Excellent article which is difficult to argue with.

But, is taking the vaccine better than not taking it ? It’s a lot of supposition and could concern many other treatments newly arrived on the scene.

How long do we wait before being sure any treatment is safe, a generation ?

I don’t know, just thought them interesting.

Yes, thoughtful articles. Overall, the human race lurches forwards and backwards in terms of technology and humanity. We’ve come a long way since homo sapiens first developed as a species, not all good, but still behave like kids with Christmas presents and can’t wait to rip off the paper and play with our new toys. Ideally, yes we should wait and test and evaluate…particularly in respect to women of childbearing age.

But with people refusing to changes behaviours what’s the choice? Lockdowns, travel bans, test and trace, self-isolation are not working as they are, unless you live in a dictatorship.

So at a society level I prefer the risk of a few poor outcomes than ever-increasing police controls and restrictions and economic problems. Just hope one of the poor outcomes isn’t anyone I love.

And that science can accelerate to cope with any genies that are let out of the bottle.

Some of the vaccines may well alter our genetic make up, maybe not ?.
Many drugs coming out for cancer etc are tested over years but not generations so how on earth do we know ?
Maybe we have to take risks in the grand scale of things…

A life without risk isn’t possible, is it? I suppose it’s a question of choosing which risks we prefer to take.
On a more trivial level, when my stepfather lost his sight, it was decided for him that having a cat was too dangerous for him as he might trip over it. That is true but he would have prefered to take that risk and keep his beloved cat.
As things stand at the moment, considering age and risk profile and that sort of thing, I would go for the vaccine but would prefer one made with the more traditional technology than the DNA modification ones…

Looks like France is in target to meet your projection of 3yrs+ as yesterday’s official vaccination number was 107,113! Additionally the infection level and in particular the R number is slowly moving up to the levels of when the Nov’ lockdown was imposed…although .hospitalisation and death is reasonably static. The worry is that the British and South African variants are now increasing.
Welcome to probable lockdown three this spring, they will become a regular occurrence until the population come to realise that acceptance of vacination is the only salvation and the authorities wake up to this.

I hope things get sorted - selfishly I am desperate to get to the house. At this rate the option of chartering a boat, sailing up the Vilaine to a secluded spot for drop off and walking the last 10 miles is becoming unreasonably attractive.

The
Self appointed Anti- vaxer…or are they respected medical experts?
I’m inclined to believe the overwhelming majority of experts worldwide who say the risk is v low and vacination is the only way out

Do your own recherche. I thought the articles interesting an interesting read so I shared them.

Actually getting on for 70% of the population now want to be vaccinated, apparently the problem is supply of vaccine it seems. (heard it around 7 am on France Info on the way to work but I’m not entirely awake at that hour).
Inter reception was messing about v irritating.

this spring, ça risque de se faire bien avant !

It is understandable that many people can be hesitant about vaccines etc, any drug can have a risk…you only have to read the leaflet that comes with them…but maybe now an increasing number realise they must have it with very minimal risk or face many months of restrictions…and we all want a free summer, so thank goodness some sense at last…now it just needs Macron and cronies to get their act together,

And the drug companies to deliver…in our area with have centres and vaccinators and not enough vaccine.

Personally, I think M. Macron and M. Castex et al are doing exceptionally well in this pandemic.
If you want a “free summer” it behoves those who choose not to wear masks, wash hands and take all the precautions outlined exceptionally well in France to get a grip (no pun intended).

I agree. Generally calm and consistent and not with 64 u-turns. Not perfect by any means but I feel things are beginning to move in the right direction. Hospitals are still coping, people are still getting normal medical care , and quite a bit of support to businesses.

I just hope that people behave better in next 3-6 months while vaccine rolling out so we don’t follow the UK into the abyss.

I would agree wholeheartedly up to the point of vaccine roll out, since then dreadfully…(the reverse of the uk) …reading on LCI this afternoon it seems that this is the increasingly predominant view amongst politicians in the big cities particularly Anne Hidalgo in Paris, it seems 2022 election jostling is now starting as they criticise Macron for slow and disorganised roll out…one asked why has UK now done 5m…France is being laughed at by other European countries was another comment.
They believe it will be this failing that will be his legacy in 2022

…and increasingly a third lock down in next week is now probable like “Monsieur Johnson” seemed to be the view.
Let’s hope this will be kick up the ar…e that is needed

I venture to suggest we probably face regular recurring lockdowns if it carries on like this :frowning: .
…I just don’t understand why there is no impatience to get back to normal which only an urgent mass vaccination programme will do, it almost seems some people are happy living as hermits, …no social life, no trips out (you can only do so much rural walking ), no restaurants, no bars, no visitors, mask everywhere you go. …Grrrrh,!
