And I don’t mean the kid’s dance.
This amused me this morning, as a dentist’s daughter have been lifelong user of interdental sticks rather than floss. Is floss something people import along with marmite and Hershey bars?

“In fairness to the French, there is actually very little data to support the benefits of flossing.”
Kind of says it all, Americans do have good teeth but the rest of their bodies and internal organs are falling apart with diabetes, heart disease and atherosclerosis. We could talk about flossing and micro plastics being rubbed around the gums, likewise the toxic American diet of sugar filled crap that means they have to floss. Cutting out virtually all sugars, I noticed a big reduction in plaque formation. I have a water flosser which gets occasional use but then I have less than perfect teeth after a motorcycle accident years ago so my ultrasonic tooth brush can get everywhere.
Ooh, you’ve done it again, my gums are beginning to tickle at the thought of it. I really did try very hard to follow your recommendation weeks ago but always ended up semi collapsed in a fit of the giggles.
No, I have never flossed, I thought only Americans did it, but I do clean my teeth vigorously everyday despite the occasional stab at the rest of my face due to over enthusiasm.
Yes I use the TePe interdental brush things on the advice of my dentist.
I do find them helpful - as you age your gums recede (hence the expression “long in the tooth”) so food is more likely to get stuck between your teeth.
I eat wholemeal bread that has seeds in so getting those out is helpful. also bits of meat occasionally. (sorry, TMI I expect).
An electric toothbrush is also a must IMHO.
I thought that was when you got to a certain age and wandered into the bathroom before stopping and wondering if you had just come in here ter pee, and then left with teeth uncleaned.
No, in a word.
You’re thinking of a Native American public convenience.
As used by South African New Age holidaymakers. “Camp” is the right word for this.
Dear friends tell the story of their wedding night. By the time he’d finished flossing in their hotel ensuite bathroom and came back into the bedroom, she was happily sound asleep.
This is a HUGH deal in the US. They were constantly , constantly pounding us with dental hygiene that always included flossing. After I retired and dental benefits were no longer available to me (which is pretty normal over there), I went to a college clinic where they were cranking out dental hygenists. It was cheap there to get an extremely thorough cleaning and checkup by a dentist for $20 (would have been about $100-150 on the street) but it took like 8 hours (over 4 sittings) because they were so picky. Their motto about flossing was “önly floss what you want to keep”. Eventually they convinced me, and now , moving here, I can’t find the only floss that works for me, Oral B Satin, which is made in Ireland, oddly. I have to get it on A…n.
The Big A rears its head again.
Fil dentaire has been available in the pharmacies for yonks,
Ahhh but it tends to be the thin string stuff. Some of us prefer the wider tape - kinder on the gums. I bought mine in bulk in the UK and 18 years down the line am still using up the original stock.
Action sell boxes of amazingly cheap interdental brushes, they’re far cheaper and better than those TePe ones I used to buy in the UK.
There’s the nice oral B stuff with a foamy bit on which looks like an extended bulrush. Also very good for cleaning pierced ears.
Good to know. I shall stock up on my next visit!
I quite often buy Boots own-brand which I think are actually made by TePe.
I use these
Soft silicone. Quick and minty fun.
Anyone for (euphemism) tennis.
I have floss but only to floss out food that gets jammed in a small gap between 2 back molars while eating - sometimes in the middle of a meal because it becomes painful! A real nuisance.
In the past I used a high-power water jet system for flushing between teeth. Can’t remember why I stopped using it.
