Yes, and the dogs arenāt bad either, are they?
Joking aside I do agree. Since the above I have travelled with them both in the car. I have one long cage with entry through the rear hatch and a similar width space alongside it from the hatch to the back of the passenger seat. Normally, ānewbiesā travel in the cage and Jules alongside but yesterday Hades followed Jules in through the side door. Neither complained and, although at one point they were both side by side with heads towards the front, they did settle down along the lines of Julesā preference. He loves to stand watching where we are going with his face alongside a passenger (not always welcomed but I donāt often have passengers), and he was there comme dāhab and Hades was at the other end looking out the back. So I now have both a navigator and a tail gunner to watch my back. ![]()
Once deserted by me for a while, Hades moves forward and scrambles over the low bars to take over in the pilotās seat. Fortunately he can be persuaded to return whence he came when the time comes for a real pilot. ![]()
My son and his GF have a new rescue pup. German Shepherd with a pinch of Border Collie. Canāt wait to visit.
Heās a cutie.
He is, and so is Hades. But he has managed to overcome my new grill to keep the cockpit human, he climbs over the passenger headrest. ![]()
But he redeems himself in forest and field, Recall almost 100% (maybe 99%) to my voice if he is doing something more interesting but, 100% to the plastic whistle, it is almost as if I have a thin line to yank from it to him as his head turns instantly and he heads straight back at breakneck speed. I have learned to stand still because his brakes donāt work, he overruns by a metre or so and has to turn on the ever present sixpences. ![]()
OH had a first today with Tommy, our ruby Cavalier King Charles. They went out walking early and met a local Cav called Patsy. Sheās decided she likes Tommy now heās grown up and wanted to play so OH let Tommy off the lead. They had a lovely runaround on the seafront until Patsy got tired.
Itās a first because until now weāve only let Tommy off the lead to run in the garden because he can be a bit bonkers. OH was so pleased when they got back.
Hopefully we can build on this and it should come in handy when we start dog training at the end of the month.
Our dogs often overrun when recalled. I tend to think itās deliberate, along the lines of: āI wasnāt really scared (or lost) and so Iām being really casual about it all and just catching up with you and taking the lead againā.
There was a time many years ago when Toby, my parentsā Jack Russell was loose on Clapham Common. The look of relief on his face when he spotted us was wonderful. So he did just that, came charging up to us and then rushed on past, saying āIām being very brave about this, and of course Iām fineā
Oh my goodness Iāve just spent hours reading through this thread and THAT is the dog I want!!!
Only a couple of hundred posts to go. Hopefully no more tears as Iāve had reading about your losses last year ![]()

Great name yes, and he will fit in your pocket. ![]()
I wish to register a protest at this thread as it is inducing Dog Acquisition Syndrome in me. ![]()
Not sure if I can afford the expense of having a doggo though.
Can be awkward these days, since the B word that is, one reason that I am highly unlikely to cross that channel again, but living here full time I donāt think I could survive without at least one dog as a companion.
Yes as I will be on my own (unless I happen to hook up with a gorgeous chateau-owning French woman
) having a dog would be nice.
Will have to do my sums after Iāve moved I think. I take your point about Brexity nonsense.
Handsome boys!
Thank you and Hades on the right will be 4 at the end of the year, I think. ![]()
Hades on the left and then Hades on the right ??? But I can only see one Hades.
They are certainly handsome boys and look to be in superb condition so maybe we will get another photo to celebrate Julesā 12th birthday this time next year David. ![]()
On HIS (ie Julesā) left
What confused me was that in the post with the photo David said āleftā and in the later post he said ārightā.
