I’ve been trying to pre book parking at Limoges airport but I don’t think it is possible?
I’ve never found a way to pre-book but I’ve never had a problem finding a space.
Thanks for the info. So I just pick up a ticket on entry and pay when I come back. Just a bit nervous of Limoges airport as I 've already been fined 100 euros for parking 5 minutes in the wrong place.
Yes - collect ticket on entry and keep it safe. When you return you can pay at a machine at the terminal building or at the exit barrier - although that may not work if you have a UK payment card (I’ve only ever used French).
Make sure you don’t park in the (clearly marked) rental car bays otherwise you’ll get another fine!
Always loads of spaces at Limoges
Just checked on my car rental at Gatwick. My UK driving licence still has my old UK address on. I don’t have to change it for a French driving licence for another 6 months. Now the car rental company asks for proof of address which I can’t give. I wonder if this will cause problems?
For proof of address you could use a recent Electricity bill, Taxe Fonciere etc. Under the post-Brexit licence exchange rules it is perfectly possible and legal to be a French resident yet hold a licence showing a UK address.
I think it would be worth checking with the UK hire company that they will find this acceptable though
We’ll I got my hired car at Gatwick though I 'd forgotten that I needed my national insurance number for them to check on my British licence. Fortunately I found it on my smart phone. Now in a few days I have to pick up a hired car from Bordeaux to get us back to Limoges airport where I’ve left my car. So I have a valid British licence but now live inlFrance do I again have to present my British NI number and proof of arrival ie boarding card and do I also need proof of address in France plus bank statement plus utilitiy bill ? I’ll try and ring the rental company in France tomorrow but my french is still not good enough
Great news!
You can obtain a ‘check code’ to enable the car hire company to check your UK licence status. It can all be done online at this UK government website.
Yes I shall certainly do that
Just wondering whether car parking at Limoges is safe and secure?
Thinking of theft and vandalism.
Does anyone know approximately a week’s parking would be?
Limoges car park …It’s now all tarmac … undercover - no - fenced - sort of … Never heard of issues there
50’ish for the week - the airport website has their prices on it. It was 25’ish Wed AM to the early hours of Sunday morning this week.
thanks for the information.
Thanks for the reassurance on the hire car. All went well with the hiring. Just a bit nervous about using a UK licence with an old UK address
Some perhaps useful information. We only hired the car in the UK for three days. But day 2 started with a puncture., fortunately we were close to where we were staying. Anyway after 2 hours the RAC came out and put on the spare, but he told us he wasn’t allowed to see to the repair of the puncture himself but we were expected to get it repaired ourselves at Kwik fit. Apparently Europcar is the only car hire with this policy. So we go to the nearest Kwik fit and we’re told we’d have to wait two hours and we were not allowed to leave the tye to be fixed as they needed to inspect the whole car! So we didn’t bother getting it fixed as our precious time was running out and chanced driving on the spare. I think I shall avoid Europcar next time.
Sounds like typical namby pamby pass the buck in case we are sued UK nowadays. In France you would have been done and dusted and on your way at the first garage (been there and done it).
Beg to differ, had a puncture in france in a hire car, local garage wanted €240 for the special Peugeot tyre, not special at all! I had an additional hire car insurance, anual policy cost the same as a 1 week policy with a hire company and covered more like tyres and windscreens. Handed the car back telling the hire company and they arranged a new tyre
Good grief… couldn’t someone have helped you put on the spare yourselves… or wasn’t the necessary equipment in the boot… ??? sounds like Europcar is one to avoid in UK…
2 hours is pretty quick! In the midst of my cancer treatment and at -4c outdoors I waited 4.5 hours for assistance and the police called the RAC twice to try and speed things up!
I was asking Geoff if the necessary equipment was in the boot… or not available to the Hirer of the car… just wondering…
Often not these days Stella in the UK at least. Some have a tyre inflator with leak sealing goop built in.
