A common problem is that the wheel wrench supplied with the car won’t allow sufficient leverage to undo the wheel nuts, which have usually been over-tightened using power tools.
Whenever I’ve had new tyres fitted by a garage, as soon as I get home I loosen the wheel nuts and retighten them to the correct torque settings, checking again after a few hundred kms. I also carry a high quality, longer-than-standard wheel nut wrench with my spare tyre.
Yes the RAC man had the same problem and had to get out a wrench with greater leverage. My main complaint was that I wasn’t allowed to leave the tyre at Kwik fit and pick it up later the reason given was that under their contract with Europcar they had to check the underside of the car and therefore had to have the car as well. So it sounds like Europcar are trying to cut their costs by making less use of the RAC and getting the car serviced at the same time as doing a tyre repair
I could have changed the tyre myself but the weather was atrocious and I’d managed to get back to where we were staying and I had expected the RAC to put on a repaired tyre.
One other interesting item from the RAC man was that my car was three years old whereas hire car companies used to change their cars every 6 months. Again cost cutting
I shall complain to Europcar
