EV - buy or wait?

Thinking further about the above , in the Lamborghini museum there are two Miuras, one original and the second a reinterpretation designed about twenty or so years later. The latter is said to be faster, and handle better, but somehow it’s styling although only subtly different, and more aerodynamic seems to me at least more bland.

So I guess my rather long-winded point, is what’s the point in making rare classic cars more ‘up to date’? They’re too insignificant to be a significant element in the climate debate.

I well remember a Bugatti owners’ club tour starting with about 130 vintage cars climbing a steep hill out of mediaeval Figeac - noisy, smelly, enthralling and magnificent - and unlikely to significantly contribute to global warming

I’d love to convert my XI to electric power and I’m sure the concept would have appealed to Colin Chapman - lower centre of gravity and moment of polar inertia would have given it even better cornering ability.

I wouldn’t disagree (well at least, sort of) but at what point does the original car become something else? Surely the original is a point in automotive developmental history. Would Chapman’s design philosophy have advocated putting a new engine in a fifty year old car.? Surely it is what it is, and that’s sufficient.

It would be a shame to take away a key part of a historic car that contributes so much to it’s character.

I beg to differ. Chapman wouldn’t have re hashed a design that was of its era, IMO he would have started from scratch.

Completely, it then only becomes a pastiche.

A category, in which I might add, the latest ridiculously expensive Morgans produced by the new vulture capitalist Italian owners also belong.

I have been very amused (low threshold) by the way my new lawn mower tucks itself away for a recharge when the battery is low.

Now, apparently Hyundai are bringing the same idea to electric cars.

That’ll be a shock for BMW drivers who like to park their petrol cars in electric charging spaces.

I KNOW what you mean :rage:

As a counterpoint to EVs catching fire, a petrol car just set on fire outside the house

Waiting for the Pompier to arrive. The driver is standing about 5-6 m from the burning car, filming it. Idiot.
Fortunately they are OK and managed to get most of their possessions out.

Fire out.
