EV Charging (please read first post in thread)

Have you considered the Xpeng G6? Similar, if not better, and cheaper than Tesla. Plus, fuck Elon Musk.

To be honest I was looking for advice about buying a car online without being a full time resident not on the actual choice of vehicle.

If I chose what products I buy because of a dislike of somebodies politics or a countries politics then that would severely deplete my choice and make no difference to the richest man on the planet.

I am no fanboy of Musk but why would buying a Chinese car be morally better than buying a Tesla, given China’s absolutely appalling humans and animal rights record.

People’s homes are full of Chinese state backed products and they don’t care one bit.

Hi MoulinSarlat. This thread is really intended for helping each other with EV charging points and their apps. You may get a more useful response if you went to the EV Buy or wait thread

You may not be interested in the politics of car ownership but you well be affected by them. There have been several reports of unattended Teslas receiving undue attention.

Yes but is that a result of carefully scrutinised statistical studies or just an urban myth?

It makes no difference to EV drivers because it is a good example of the usefulness of the apps. Chargemap, which is the one I use, shows different icons on the map depending on the state of the charger so any non-functional chargers can be avoided.

You can also filter out out of order chargers so that they never crop up in any searches.

Some apps use the out of order symbol to show chargers that are not open 23/7 and are currently closed.

Thanks for that JohnH. It never occurred to me to look at Waze. I have not needed to use it for several years. The current EV updates are very interesting.

I hope the reason for your sudden dash has a happy outcome.

Thread drift invariably brings a dull topic to life

EV’s - as Clarkson summed them up, no different to other electrical appliances like fridges and washing machines.

I am sorry you find this thread dull JohnBoy and you are right, thread drift is endemic on SF. Perhaps you are not an EV driver yourself in which case one would expect it to have no interest for you.

Which do you trust less when you buy something controlled by software and needing updates, Musk or the Chinese government? I couldn’t get a fag paper between them, tbh.

Yes they do. Some of us actively avoid buying Chinese stuff, and not only for quality reasons.

Bring on the Koreans

No, not an EV driver but why should that determine my interest in reading this thread?
You are clearly an EV convert and on a mission to tell the world that we should all do the same.
I use my computer and phone with all its apps because negotiating a path through life becomes increasingly difficult without them.
I currently have no desire to increase my dependence on such devices by owning an EV.
From what I have read on this thread so far it gives me no encouragement to change my mind.

That was never the intention. This thread , as I have tried to explain, is just so that EV drivers can help each other and as I tried to make clear in the first post (and in the title of the thread), it is NOT designed to promote the benefits or otherwise of EVs.

Ah, you mean one of those essential things that everybody needs that enhance their life and solve ongoing problems. You seem to be right this time. A great example.

Yes I should have posted there, but i suppose no point reposting as it will just attract more political discussion rather than what I was looking for.

Regarding the unwanted attention of Teslas. It always surprises me the way people can carry out criminal damage of someone’s private property and it isn’t universally condemned by everyone else.
It’s a criminal act and should be punished with the full force of the law.

Although in the USA I can imagine there will be cases where if somebody is caught in the act, they sadly might end up paying the ultimate price.

The EU are still importing Russian energy, should we boycott all EU products because of that? How do you decide what is ok and what isn’t.

Arms to Israel is a huge business, are people ensuring their pension funds are not invested in these companies. They are directly benefiting from people’s deaths.
So while people will jump on the anti Musk bandwagon because it’s easy and fashionable most will be indirectly supporting much worse.

politicising the wrong thread still.

I sincerely hope you’re not referring to leaving it in an actual airport car park. Too many stories of people who had unexpected problems returning and faced huge bills.

Back to the topic. I am on my second EV , Zoe for 6 years and now a 5E. I have never used a commercial charger, driving needs allowed just the use of the home charger. When I have looked at chargers at LeClec for example I don’t fully understand how they operate. Is it possible to use an ordinary bank card to pay or do they all need some kind of specific charge card?
