Not much chance of a sugar spike in my childhood…
In the months I lived with English Gran, she used to slice a mars bar very thinly… she and I had a slice each as a treat… then it was put away in the fridge for next weekend… it lasted for ages like that…
If my craving for biscuits gets the better of me, I choose from these on the local SuperU UK shelves.
Variety never varies so must be favoured by the local UK customers.
I pass these shelves by, not tempted anymore…but might from time to time, if I need cheering up!
We’re not long lost twin brothers are we…!
Aha… McVities Digestives, crumbled up… are an important ingredient for my chocolate-brandy-cake. Can’t seem to find local biscuits which give quite the same result.
On the other hand,Sables with crushed Speculoos… yummy… that does give it a super zing…
EDIT this is made with very dark chocolate, butter, biscuits, cranberries, walnuts, a little sugar and some brandy (hic)… delicious but only handed round in small portions… but bigger slices than my English Gran would have dished out…
and people can (and do) come back for second helpings…
I’ll leave you all to look-up this one… tarte aux mirabelles… neighbour has just handed one over… can confirm, it’s delicious… almost as good as a biscuit
They last longer if you keep them in the freezer and only take out for a slice or two, some bread knives are good at cutting the thin slices
good grief… it was quite something that Gran had a fridge…
It was rectangular, with a drop down full width door… and it was the right height to be used as the kitchen table and, when necessary, as an ironing board (with a thick blanket cover)… but there was absolutely no chance of a freezer…
Has anyone mentioned Hobnobs?
And anyone remember Wagon Wheels? Biscuit of choice in my school lunch box.
But nothing comes close IMO to a Mcvitie’s chocolate digestive, apple and lump of cheddar - a meal in itself.
Have you had any recently? So disappointing now. I think they may have changed the recipe and they are so small!!! Maybe they just seemed bigger when we were smaller

. .or even without the apple.
They were bigger, at least according to google:
What was the original size of a Wagon Wheel biscuit?
you might remember the Wagon Wheels of the 80s or before. Sometime during the 80s they saw their first reduction from a 79mm width to a 74mm width . Following this, they shrunk again sometime between their 2006 weight of 41g and today’s weight of 36g.Sep 17, 2015
I knew it!!

To make up for the smaller size I over compensate with a pack of 8!!

Anybody mentioned Malted Milk biscuits ?
Another favourite from my childood.
I can only cut down on any biscuits by giving the packet to my neighbour and taking 2 each evening to eat after supper(She’s not into biscuits herself as she is a heavy smoker so they are safe)
