FedEx Delivery Mayhem

I don’t know what the current state of affairs is - and it probably varies by country but FedEx is one of the delivery companies which claimed that their drivers were self-employed or “independent contractors”.

Thus the drivers had to pay for the van, and the uniform, no sick or holiday pay and had to work to the extremely tight delivery schedules imposed upon them by FedEx (this is very common in the delivery business although some companies have now been “pulled up” regarding the employment status of their drivers - including FedEx themselves in the US).

In short - do have a small thought from the driver in all of this, I’m sure 99% are working very hard at what is a pretty rubbish job.

@John_Scully A month or so back we had two large paintings sent from the UK - very precious to us rather than intrinsically valuable. We used a specialist art shipper as this wasn’t just any old package as they are irreplaceable. They came via FedEx to our door. Smooth as silk, and the delivery arrived virtually to the minute of when we were told to expect it. Plus we have a nicely made foam lined wooden case which we are turning into a cupboard for our seeds…

Luck of the draw sadly.

Stella, please don’t make FedEx out to be worse than the rest. You say your delivery arrived at 6pm Tuesday but you posted at 3pm that it had arrived.
I have another FedEx delivery due next week and if , like this week’s delivery I am able to track it from door to door and it arrived on time then I will let you know

Apparently they are rated 3,9 by their 'delivery personnel '. I have no doubt that it isn’t an easy job but there are other difficult jobs too.
I don’t like being told outright lies to my face, I would have respected the driver if he had told the truth !

When a post is within 24 hours it gives you the time elapsed since posting not the time of posting. So when Stella’s post said 15 hours she posted 15 hours ago not at 1500 hours it now says 16 hours ie 6 pm

Which is understandable, and no-one likes being “fobbed off”. I am just trying to point out that not every driver is a “bad apple”, and that mostly the drivers are not responsible for poor performance of FedEx overall.

However some are, of course:

We had problems with UPS once when the package seemed to be on a sightseeing holiday of Europe. Eventually arrived many days late.
Generally though we’ve had no problems but it’s noticeable that most things arrive in privateers white vans, rather than the named carrier. At least the drivers are cheerful and friendly which is more than I could say about some of the UK ones in the past. I don’t imagine it’s an easy job.

And if you hover over the number of hours then it tells you the exact date and time of posting.

An apology for Stella would be nice @JohnBoy

I’d suspect the packing was down to the Shipper Jane, not FedEx. My painting was also well packed by the art gallery. Just as well as it was kicking around the FedEx distribution centre for lone enough.

Wonder how many of those were fragile

You’re right Stella. I generally only give suppliers one chance. A policy I always followed in business too. Fool me once… etc.

John… trust me… when I say something arrived at whatever time … that is when it arrived… and it just happens that 6pm on Tuesday is 24 hours later than the original set-up for Monday, which promised anything from 9am… but certainly… “latest delivery 6pm” on that Monday…:relaxed:

As I say 2 waiting/wasted days instead of just the 1.

@ john_scully. Yes, that was why we chose that shipper as custom made the cases…but it was nice that arrived in such good condition!

Mandy Davies, do you mean the same type of apology required when posting incorrect information about claiming UK pensions?
If so then then I will if you will!
On the subject of deliveries, while a window is given from 8am to 6 pm
I think we both know that rarely if at all are deliveries made at the last minute. If nothing has arrived by mid afternoon then it’s done for the day and white van man is long gone back to the depot.

John if you had read Stella’s post correctly then you would see that her delivery arrived at 6pm.
Is it so hard to apologise when you have made an error in your post to her ?

Really John! Such an ungracious response. Shame on you.

The information I posted was perfectly correct. If you have somehow found a way around the correct/official route for claiming your pension then bully for you. Let’s hope it doesn’t come back to bite you.

Good grief… what a lot of tosh… we have had deliveries at late as 8pm (although not FedEx, granted)…

Yesterday Tuesday. … 5.30pm came and went… OH kept looking at the new App to ensure that the parcel had not been marked as undeliverable… but, no, still out on the lorry… the minutes passed like hours…

and then … finally… 6pmish (I think the bells had finished) … the FedEx van arrived (not white-van) … and the delivery man found himself facing a “gentle” inquisition about Monday… (as I have already posted…)

Perhaps John has never experienced an afternoon/evening delivery… that is fair enough… he can only report on what has happened to him.

However… I obviously have a much wider experience… :hugs:

I had an evening delivery once from Vistaprint and a Sunday delivery when hubby’s bag was put on the wrong aircraft , think I was more shocked when his bag was dropped off than the Vistaprint delivery

I beg to differ, my pension application included a full explanation of my current circumstances regarding my french pension and I now have my official letter from DWP with my full UK pension offer.
So did not find a way around it and nothing waiting to bite me! 50 years of paying in has finally come good. Don’t know what to spend it on yet though

Perhaps some lessons in how to apologise …
