We finally have a signing date for our apartment so going over to France next week for a few days - we’d like to go back out and be there for Xmas so need to get as much furniture in asap! Where would you recommend to buy sofas/chairs etc. that can be bought on the spot and transported in a van - Ikea seems the obvious choice but seems that Grenoble doesn’t seem to stock many and alot of them are pre order or order for delivery…Thanks!
Have a look at But or Conforama (mainly at the less expensive end of the spectrum)
If you like furniture with a bit of age/character try any local Trocs/Brocantes
Maison du Monde ticks a lot of boxes ![]()

Thank you for the link…
I have just learned that the French for “mouse scroll wheel” is “Molette de défilement”, which brings up visions of a tiny mole being ravished by a Victorian melodrama villain… ![]()
Echoing @Susannah , we’ve had a fair amount from Maisons du Monde, and plan to get more.
Another I have used is ‘Interior’s’
I know the apostrophe is off but the merch is nice.
La Rediute do furniture and its delivered, not bought but maybe worth a look.
Thanks all - ideally looking for somewhere off shelf rather than having to order/wait…need to have something to sit on for Xmas
!!
I would also recommend Maisons du Monde furniture…we have two buffets, a few small tables and a simple dining table in nice wood with ornate wrought iron legs. It all suits our stone farmhouse.
Unbridled hedonism and debauchery… ![]()
our first Christmas here … 2 folding beach chairs and a large cardboard box as a table…
being here is what’s important

best of luck
Kids today, eh, @ChrisMann ?
You can use them as furniture ?
What a good idea ![]()
Who would’ve thought, thirty years ago, we’d all be sittin’ here drinkin’ Château de Chasselas, eh?
We used to live in one room, all twenty-six of us, no furniture, half the floor was missing, and we were all huddled together in one corner for fear of falling.
Aye, that’s the one… ![]()
It’s worth looking for recycleries
/ ressourceries near you, and also looking on Le Bon Coin for people selling furniture. There is a lot of rather dreadful stuff, but sometimes there are very good pieces people want to sell because they’re moving. I actually got given a superb buffet for the kitchen because I could take it away the same day.
And also… it’s kind of fun doing it that way. Whereas Ikea… well, I suppose there are always the meatballs!
And Emmaus and brocantes of course
Already said this!
