So good to now have a season turn into a real competition, both with drivers and with engines.
Totally expected. Gives Hamilton 2 seasons to see if the new regs suit his driving style and more chances to secure his 8th WDC as Red Bull look like they might spoil the party.
Having a very disgruntled teammate isnât helping his chances this season.
Hmm has Botas been offered a new contract?
Russel will get his drive next season.
Formula W on ch4 at 3pm UK time.
This suggests notâŚ
British GP this afternoon, brilliant race and a great comeback by Lewis, 99 wins and counting. Shame about Max (only joking)
The thing that staggered me was that I didnât see any spectators wearing face masks or attempting social distancing. And there were 140,000 of them. I really hope this doesnât translate to more infections in a week or so.
It will.
After Wembley now this.
Agreed, the only people I saw wearing marks were the C4 presenters. Felt fairly safe watching the TV though
Tomorrow 100000â s will be out mixing and we will observe the effect in a week or so.
Incredible race and glad Max is ok, that wont be the last time we see the two epic drivers make contact, what a 1st lap!
I didnât see the race but my guess is, from the commentary I read, that Lewis was truthful in that Verstappen played out his usual sneaky card and closed the gap on Lewis and that it backfired on him spectacularly.
I really canât stand that snivelling, whingeing HornerâŚ
Feel sorry for Horner, married to Ginger Spice
On the race, better not to pass comment until you do. Lewis received a 10 second penalty for the action and the ex drivers commentators seemed to put the blame on Lewis. It was a coming together that could have easily broken both cars. Lewis took the penalty then drove like a man possessed to take back the lead in the last 2 laps.
no pressure then
Bit like a playground incident⌠âhe hit me firstâ type of thing
A number of former F1 drivers including some that have won races at Silverstone expressed the opinion that Verstappen wouldnât have expected to find Hamilton trying his luck on the inside at that point of the tracks as everyone knows that itâll end in tears for someone.
Hamiltonâs mistake cost him nothing effectively as there was no-one left on the track to match his pace after Verstappen went into the tyre wall.
If penalties are going to be handed out to the top tier teams when incidents like this happen, they need to be effective punishments with actual consequences.
Verstappen was very luck not to be injured in whatâs being reported as a 51G deceleration and RRB will be lucky if thereâs anything salvageable from that car.
I saw it (numerous times) and listened to all their opinions. From what Iâve gathered, Lewis was determined to race Max this time and not back down as he usually does. MV has always been an overly aggressive racer IMO. It should have been put down to a first lap racing incident, not what the pathetic Horner was saying you shouldnât overtake there - itâs a motor race, itâs what they do ffs. As for being disrespectful with celebrating the win, get real Max, if you canât take it, take up knitting instead.
I agree completely with you Mark.
Lewisâ commentary was that he feined an overtake on the outside then immediately switched to the inside line. That to me suggests that MV knew exactly what the strategy was and therefore aware of Lewisâ presence throughout. He tried to close the door on Lewisâ tactic too aggressively to drive him off or cause him to yield but, as you say, this was racing at itâs best and the former F1 drivers are just that - has beenâs who should confine themselves to playing golf!
I object to your comment about knitting.
It is a wonderful occupation.
Was it a mistake? Was it to unsettle Max?
In order to condem the actions of the 7x times world champion you need some experience.
Max has often done a lot worse to others
I didnât say it wasnt a wonderful "occupation "
No, but your implication was derogatory.
