“Currently the average price of a litre of petrol sits at 149p, while diesel is 155p. Both are far beyond the Europe average of 144p and 134p respectively.”
Is that true in France?

You can check current French prices on the official government website.
Diesel is about £1.40/litre in my part of Vienne/86 at the moment.
Dont know about SP95, but diesel is about €1.68 (£1,43 ) here in Manche/Calvados
Same here in Lot et Garonne. Lowest it’s been in a good while.
I do not see how a new law allowing the government to monitor prices can have any impact over the next few weeks when there is no government in place?
Probably why they have done it ![]()
Of course the civil service continues to operate and its them who do the work.
SP95 was €1,95/litre at my village Super U station yesterday but where I go to Intermarché on the weekends as they reduce it for workers to fill up for the coming week, it was €1,78/litre. Total was somewhere between the two as I glanced yesterday morning quickly.
Looks like France is about 5p more for petrol than the UK so questioning the article and the EU unless they mean Spain?
As the article quoted was from the Daily Express it could just be a work of wannabe fiction.
That equally applies to most news articles these days
UK-EU comparisons by the RAC here:
Latest data in their chart has UK average petrol per litre price at £1.49 (11th most expensive - Denmark tops the table at £1.73); France average they say is currently £1.60.
Average price around me in SE London £1.47
Bicester Tesco yesterday £1.39 for petrol and £1.485 for diesel.
France seemed a bit more expensive in early May, especially for petrol.
Thats flippin incredible.
Newhaven Sainsburys where I will fill up.
They’re often the cheapest around here, just occasionally undercut by a local Jet garage. Banbury would sometimes also be cheaper, but the Morrisons filling station there was often the same price as Shell.
Diesel and Petrol much cheaper in the UK than it is here in France.1.79€/lit for diesel and 1.89€/lit for petrol yesterday,so quite a big price difference, not just a few pence,it has been like this for a long time now, nobody seems to be able to explain it.
Think you’re going to the expensive fuel stations @Euro50
That was Carrefour market,so one of the cheaper outlets,Total just up the road is 1.85€/lit for diesel and petrol is 1.95€/lit.
