Gablok modular house construction

Disclaimer: I am not associated in any way with this product but having constructed a wood framed house, I somehow wish I had seen this product before - I think it would have saved us a ton of money…
The company behind the product is based in Belgium from what I can see so no issues obtaining the materials in the EU.

The url is here if you are interested.

This is what I want……and the Huf elves come and build it in a couple of days in true German style.

One of my most enjoyable career moments was pre-fabricated housing - built loads of different low energy ones.

The future is here already, this is from my favourite architecture and design mag. If I was starting out again (please, give me back fifty years) 3D printing and digital carving is where I’d want to go. Forget flat screens and pixels, let’s make real things!

Friends of my parents have a Huf house and it is fab

I saw a video somewhere of clay and hemp construction which was v cool and pleasingly fluid in shape and so on, the houses looked a bit like trulli but all smooth.

I am working on my partner….our final move to a neat single story Huf House somewhere reasonably flat in sight of the Atlantic ocean, and not a huge rambling dust infested stone pile in a mountainous terrain about as far from the sea as one can get.

Great minds obv think alike, I fancy exactly the same thing!

Very German - it’s 1930s Mies with a pitched roof. However I imagine the glass needs to be triple glazed and solar reactive, otherwise you’d freeze in winter and fry in summer. Or computer controlled external venetian blinds that are becoming popular in Oz and the southern US.

Portugal is the place to look for interesting new Atlantic coastal architecture:-

Not that you’ll ever find me living on a western coast again. Nice views, but bloody awful weather, rain and wind. Loved living on the Eastern Cape a short drive from the Indian Ocean and these days we can drive down to the Med at Colliure and Port Vendre or even be in Figueras by lunchtime

Huf have been ahead of the curve for many, many years in terms of energy, and now are at passive house standards. These things are carefully thought through!

It’s being used a lot in Central Africa, but also here’s yet another dezeen link (NB. There are other architecture websites)

Hempcrete has been used in France for 30 years! Nothing new there.

Do Huf come and build houses in France then? The last time I looked they were ‘the’ Passivhaus but very, very expensive.

Also not sure how the mairie would view it fitting in here.

PS Why do so many videos have really irritating soundtracks that add absolutely nothing.

If I can get over that I might try to find out if their system would work for a conservatory.

I have seen their lorries on the French motorways.
They are only one of many many companies but became famous because of TV.

Its a SIPs system. Structurally insulated panels, look for someone more local? Some are just bare panels others pre finnished like Huf etc

Wonder what the French wording is. Looks like it would work well though.

@graham might have a laugh but I reckon even I could build a low-roofed conservatory with that system. Would still use an architect though to get it planned up properly and the ground preparation done.

I quite like the idea of living in a house inside a geodesic dome, like this one…
