Plus the birthrate in developed countries continues to fall, and fertility is undergoing a catastrophic decline almost everywhere - we have gone without stopping in between from worries about overpopulation to serious concern about under-population - and this is, if course, just another aspect of climate/ecological breakdown.
Margaret Atwood wrote about it over 30 years ago (The Handmaid’s Tale). Not just climate / ecology Geof but our diets and the fact that we are pouring hormones into our water supply - growth promotors in the agri world and the pill mainly.
I personally believe a catastrophic decline in mankind’s fertility is the only thing that might save this planet. The last thing the earth needs is more humans.
A great number of us British here are not very employable lets face it ,
Many of us are elderly or in the buisness of gite related projects. There are some
who come over here and make soaps or import cream teas. France needs doctors. young doctors.Possibly cleaners but the brits do not come here to clean.
A friend of mine who is a life-long Green and who is married to the union de la gauche maire of St Medard en Jalles says scratch a Green and you’ll find Red.
Places at Med School are oversubscribed Barbara, the problem isn’t a shortage overall it’s just that the young newly qualified doctors don’t want to work in the country.

There are ‘rural deserts’ as regards doctors here, it took us six months to find a new MT when ours retired a couple of years ago.
Our doctor suddenly retired without telling any of his patients

MLP has no need for our presence.
Any British-or whatever tradesman or woman worth their salt can earn a living in France. Leckies, plumbers, roofers etc etc are in short supply for example. I have a mate who employs five electricians and has two years of orders and is desperately seeking more tradespeople.

Hormones from the contraceptive pill in the water don’t help either.
We really don’t need so many men though.
There is a British tradesman here who is employed by both Brits as he is honest and does a very good job.
What about men that identify as women?
I’ve never heard of men identifying as women. Men identify as men. Women identify as women, and a small number of people are non-binary.
