There does seem to be a bit of hysteria creeping in here. Cabin fever?
The association of people that are just getting on with normal life, where this can be done, and people prone to conspiracy theories is completely irrational - and bizarre.
I understand that the only Communist Mayor is in a Breton village.
Sorry Geof this post makes no sense - if we disagree with you that makes us hysterical, prone to conspiracy theories, completely irrational and bizarre. You are not the font of all knowledge on this sensitive subject and should be able to appreciate others points of view without reverting to faux outrage. Obviously Brittany is doing far better than other regions but will it be short lived - wave after wave has spread like wildfire across Europe and unless l am mistaken Brittany does not have an invisible super dome of protection as this article shows.
Bergerac has a lot of foyers for sdf people (historical reasons linked to protestant philanthropy) and at this time of year a lot of sdf people appear, usually on their way elsewhere and stay a bit, because it is quite a nice town, there’s usually someone (eg me) who’ll buy you a sandwich and a cup of coffee at La Mie Caline etc etc dogs mainly for companionship I think though obv they may dissuade nasty people. The Bergerac foyers accept dogs (not all do) and there’s a vet opposite the biggest, which treats these dogs for very little or even nothing at all.
The crew outside the café yesterday weren’t sdfs they were just casos.
You are fortunate.
No - just reporting it as it is round here.
No Jane, there are quite a lot around actually.
You have to remember that what you say doesn’t s fit Geoff’s world view viz that France has got it about right. He is always keen to point out the death toll in the UK as some sort of evidence, which is a bit like feeling smug that while your team is losing 6 nil, your friend’s team is losing 9 nil.
I think anyone who thinks France has ‘got it about right’ would soon change their opinion if they spent a few days in a Covid ward.
A reminder of the challenges of keeping schools open as has happened in France - message this evening from a friend in the UK who works in the education sector includes the following …
"Unfortunately working in a school is a bit like an early warning system - the kids have only been back since 8th March and we have already had numerous positive cases, mostly asymptomatic but unfortunately these kids are out in the community so it’s bound to have a wider reaching impact."
That must be very worrying for your friend Sue. By contrast, the school I work at of about 900 11-18 year olds has not yet had one positive test which is quite astounding. They are all doing tests at home on a Wednesday and a Sunday and have been doing so since 8th March.
The staff are doing the same including me of course. Not sure about results among staff but all my mine have been happily negative, as I would hope as I’ve had my first vaccine. Not a pleasant procedure but it’s surprisingly reassuring to see the single line appear in the test. Phew!!!

I really don’t understand what ‘makes no sense’ to you in my posts Dan.
You said:
What you say Geof makes no sense - Everywhere we go people are failing to follow the recommended measures
But how can your observations in another part of France invalidate mine here in Brittany?
Surely it’s your attempt to make your own experience universal that doesn’t make sense.
Then you go on to say:
I suppose you will be telling us next that the Virus is just like the flu
But why do you say this? Your words do try to associate people (like me) that simply observe generally good pandemic-etiquette in their region with crazy conspiracy theorists who see covid as a hoax. I just can’t imagine what you think the link is - it is truly bizarre - but for the record:
- I do see Bretons generally following the covid precautions - and I certainly am.
- I do not believe in any conspiracy theories, I do not think covid is some kind of hoax, I’m not an anti-vaxer, I don’t have any strange or unusual theories about covid at all.
Hope that’s clear.
echo that …here in 22 we see everybody taking care and behaving responsibly. Rurality is happines
You can see from yesterdays press conference that obviously someone in Brittany isn’t observing good pandemic etiquette but well done Geof for maintaining yours, l wish more people would follow your example. Someone must be spreading the virus in your Region so it follows that because you haven’t observed non-compliance with the “Pandemic etiquette” does not mean it is not happening - otherwise how would it spread?
I see that the UK have vaccinated 57% of the adult population which draws a stark comparison to the miserable effort of the Macron Administration.
Cripes…C deA. +100%, but at least it was from a low base…I blame all the Paris flee-ers
I don’t think the fact that the virus is still spreading implies that people aren’t generally following covid precautions. Masks, hand cleaning, social distancing, etc, are not 100% effective - nor are vaccines actually. The virus continues to spread even during strict lockdowns, though of course at a much reduced rate; but when the lockdowns end, the rate gradually climbs again.
@SuePJ
I have a third of one of my UVIth classes missing because 2 of them have Covid and the rest are contact cases. I’m not feeling fab but I think it is just hypochondria. My lycée has about 1000 15-18 year-olds in it.
i I have recently confirmed my original thoughts that my French friends are rather stubborn and omniscient
They hate to be told and they can not be wrong
How can they say that Le Penn is not like her father are they intimate friends of hers.
We are living in a world of actresses and we should not bewitched by them
[/quote]
By saying she isn’t like her father they are sanitising the party she represents in order to justify voting for it (which they have to do because they know damn well it’s a heap of ‘deplorables’).
Yup it is for protection and companionship.
Is that because more people are voting communist or is it the status quo?
