I have to say it, the silence on this genocide shames us all

And another one…

Edit: another two…

I was just going to reply that I think Billie Eilish’s brother / co-writer who was another support act has also pulled out with a strong condemnation. That’s a big deal as he’s multi-Grammy winning musician and obviously very in demand.

Edit, I see you’ve added him in at the end!

In a way, it’s the less established artists who are pulling out that are impressing me more than those who are already rich and famous. Although I get it that they won’t generate as much buzz.

A while ago, I posted an image suggesting that Islamist terrorism leads to Islamophobia.

It was deleted in the basis that it was an image/meme.

It was the same thought that could equally be expressed as Israeli government actions in Gaza is leading to antisemitism.

There seem to be an awful lot of pro-Palestine images and memes in this thread.

SF is not exactly balanced at the moment, is it?

Being critical of the Israeli government isn’t being antisemitic.

Not everything justifies “balance”.

Interesting perspective :slightly_smiling_face: Ponzi is as Ponzi does I guess  As we head for the AI debt apocalypse.

What is balance?
Equal time/space given to all views?
The BBC made that error with Wakefield/MMR.

:slightly_smiling_face:

@porridge Balance.

This thread is about the genocide that Israel is perpetrating, not about the many atrocities Islamic fanatics have, do and will cause. I don’t think mixing the two wrongs on one thread would serve any purpose other them dilute the seriousness of both. I’m sure we’ve all posted about ISIS etc. in the past but maybe you could curate a new thread on the Islamic issues. The treatment of women in Afghanistan and how the West should try and mitigate it is one aspect that interests me for one.

Absolutely it will. The reason for this is well known, accepted and continues to be perpetrated by organisations like the Board of Deputies of British Jews. They conflate, and have done for as long as I can remember, legitimate and valid criticism of the State of Israel with antisemitism. The threat of being seen as antisemitic has stifled many people. Insofar as the Deputies strategy was disingenuous and wrong it is also wrong to lay the blame for what the Israli Government is doing at the feet of the jewish population as a whole. But the connection has already been made and reinforced for decades and decades. To break that connection the jewish community must vigorously disassociate themselves from the genocide. So far they have, I’m sure for social, political and family reasons, not done so. I think that’s a mistake. .

This report, just launched by the courageous, dedicated and meticulous B’Tselem, adds again to the tsunami of evidence of genocide.

And the power and influence of Big Brother US is in decline. I think a day of reckoning is coming.

I’m not at all surprised. There’s only one acceptable opinion to have in the Arts: Palestine is wonderful (despite killing people for their sexuality, to give only one example of the depravity of Hamas), Israel is the source of all evil.

But even if there were a genocide going on (there isn’t: it’s a legal term, with a defined meaning), you can’t logically separate the behaviour of those who provoked it and continue to work for the end of Israel from Israel, which wants the end of Palestine.

Who says there is no genocide in Palestine?
Here is the UN on it.
Israel has committed genocide in the Gaza Strip, UN Commission finds | OHCHR https://share.google/XcBu5fvztl4cxHij9

Edit to add.
Terrorism from Hamas may provoke a strong response. Correct.
It does not provoke genocide.

Oh yes there is, and the criteria for declaring it as such has been well reached and passed. You need to do a little research.

You are still in whataboutery mode Porridge. This thread is focusing on what a supposedly civilised democracy is doing to innocent women and children. You can’t justify that by citing atrocities carried out by a different bunch of religious savages.

What a way to both be a thoroughly decent human being, and boost a career all at once. The call out to Bob Kraft to match the donation is the icing on the cake. Well played Macklemore :joy:

Will it though?

Do you really think record companies, tour promotors and venue owners will now be queuing up to work with him or will he now have his card marked as a “trouble maker”.

People have painted Sheeran as an uncaring a***hole but he has given so many “unknown” or minor music acts spots on his tours over the years. Going forward, he’ll make damn sure he’s more careful about who plays with him to avoid this happening again.

Sheeran has played (headlined?) in the padt at a concert to raise funds for Ukraine. He cannot honestly claim to be apolitical.

Sheeran doesn’t claim to be “apolitical” he just doesn’t want to make public his views on certain subjects which is his right surely?

Fair comment.
He hasn’t said that.

Yes

Yes

I’ve no doubt it will be mutual carefulness…

Contracts will be gone through with a fine toothed comb, of course.
And be broken irrespective of what they say, of course.

This discussion does beg the question - do we want sports stars, musicians or any entertainer in general to get involved in politics?

It worked well in Ukraine.
