I lean towards the lab leak theory, what do others think?

I would like to think it was an "accidental " lab leak, rather than something done deliberately. Being cynical, which country has gained the most/very low infection and death rate, and which countries have suffered most?..I wonder!!

Yes Mark, Iā€™d assume it was accidental too. But one wonders why labs are ā€œenhancingā€ these already dodgy viruses.

It doesnā€™t take a genius to understand that the more China hinders investigations into the source of the pandemic the more speculation there will be.
China canā€™t tell the rest of the world what to think, as it does to its own citizens and it needs to understand that, which it probably does but doesnā€™t want to acknowledge it.

Having seen Chinese Heath and safety standards up close, my ā‚¬5 is firmly on a combination of negligence/poor protocols/shoddy safety equipment failure.

In the Lab?

Never thought anything else John.

I think this is a process called gain-of-function whereby a virus is enhanced in order to help understand how it evolves leading to possible better treatment for future outbreaks of new viruses.

I too believe that the leak was accidental, but China has to come clean on what happened for the future of such research.

There have been heated arguments about the USA funding this gain-of-function research in China between Anthony Fauci (Director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) and Rand Paul (a contentious Republican Senator). But I digressā€¦!

Looks like the US isnā€™t only outsourcing manufacturing to China

Gain of function is used in germ warfare.

I am sure it was an accidental leak. Perish the thought that the US would ever commission such research apparently the Chinese lab in Wuhan was contracted to the WHO

I think fauchiā€™s position is becoming untenable and his rumoured replacement is just as entrenchedā€¦

Beagle gate also funded by fauchi (beagle puppies who had their vocal chords cut so they wouldnā€™t scream whilst being bitten on their faces by sandflies) surfaced months ago and is now circulating againā€¦

Who knows maybe the dog lovers will be his ultimate downfallā€¦???

And 3 of the 10 ā€œscientistsā€ sent there from the WHO to do the inspection were previous employees of the LAB who were picked by the CCP. As the history of the Lab shows the CCP military has a large stake if not a total one in it, Bio warfare testing? I could think so.

New user here, presently looking to buy a house in the Morvan.

My day job is working for a company that specialises in providing tools for those investigating infectious diseases. It is not unusual to see viruses jumping species across to man from animal hosts - some are well known like ebola, others much less so like mayaro or oropuchi viruses. While it is hard to be certain about this, it seems very likely that this was a ā€˜naturalā€™ jump, rather than a lab leak - obviously I donā€™t know that to be the case. But if one were to engineer a bioweapon and release it deliberately then something much more effective than SARS Cov2 might have been picked, especially since if western governments had been a little more effective in their dealing with the situation then it might not have gone very far at all.

Trying to add something useful to the conversation.

Hello Ancient, I have noticed that the lab leak theory is less prevalent amongst those with expertise in the area. But itā€™s my only conspiracy theory and Iā€™m loath to let it go :face_with_hand_over_mouth: Plus, the more China protests the less I believe them.

No worries John - itā€™s fun to enjoy a bit of a conspiracy theory now and again provided it doesnā€™t have consequences.

I assumed - aaaggghhh wait for the trolls - as the old find it hard to fight it - it was a designer virus - specifically developed to target 264 million ancients accidentally on purpose.

That was the theory where I was working at the time.

The heat is onā€¦Fauchi lied to Congressā€¦.even Friday just gone the definition of gain of function was quietly redefinedā€¦ā€¦

We will seeā€¦.

I also had the privilege of working in the Infectious Disease area as a Medical Scientist and later a designer of testing algorithms for Infectious Diseases. I have worked all over the world in this area, including China at the request of the Chinese Government when HIV first reared its head. I have also been consulted on Covid as I was for the original SARS outbreak. Conspiracy theory is a load of tosh with no scientific backing. The Chinese were the first to report Covid-19 (Jan 2020), and the first also to announce within days its gene sequence and make it public. My experience of Chinese healthcare is that they are better at it than most countries in the world. What seems to have been ignored and this is where conspiracy enters the equation is that in retrospect Covid-19 existed in samples in Spain March 2019 (10 months before it became public), also it was discovered in Paris in December 2019. Many people in the UK had a severe pulmonary disease in December and Jan 2020 and were retrospectively tested as Antibody Positive (i.e. they had immunity to Covid-19). So why is the political will to hang this on the Chinese? The danger here is it will discourage them from reporting a severe infectious disease in the future. As for its origin then if a Lab leak look to Spain not China but remember they found it was rife in the Mink population where 100,000 of them were slaughtered.

David which part specifically are you refering to?
I watched a detailed analysis by clever people who remarked along the lines of 4 different parts had to come together to create covid19 which in nature would be unheard of as the odds would be so remote and like you they work in this area. I did post a link to the video about a year ago, if I find it again I would like your thoughts on it.
