I'm having trouble shutting down my self-employment from overseas

Hi folks, I was hoping someone might know what to do about a snag I’ve hit while trying to shut down my self-employment in France from overseas?

I’m having some trouble with the stage where the guichet asks for a digitally certificated submission. If someone could give me some advice or point me to a good resource on the following I’d be incredibly grateful:

a) how does the digital certification work and which certification company is my best bet?

b) is there is an alternative to the certified declaration or FranceConnect+? Can I send in a hardcopy to somewhere?

c) can anyone recommend a hand-holder who helps expats with this sort of admin?

Some additional context:

I left France at the start of November and am shutting my self-employment, impots, URSSAF, etc… down from overseas. I began the process of closing my business online last week, but to do so I need a digitally certified document.

The companies that offer the certification all require expensive subscriptions. But I am not sure the process will even work if I am overseas.

I was on a one-year visa and don’t have a national identity card (so can’t get FranceConnect+) and I lived and worked for that year as a self-employed person in Paris.

Unfortunately, that year was dogged by health troubles that tanked my business and kept me from integrating. One of the consequences is that even after a year, my French is still very shaky, making the whole task much more difficult.

This may help. Valérie knows her stuff and her advice is usually about the best you can get. I see she has added an update just this month.

Thank you, this looks like it could be useful. I’ll give it a proper look later today and see if I can get it to work with Valérie’s help!

I have not been able to shut it down. The method above requires a FranceConnect login that I don’t have. I you have that login, the method above may well work for you.

In order to log into Urssaf, I have had to use a VPN located in France. It doesn’t seem to load when it reads my location as being outside of France.

If you figure it out before I do, please let me know!

Surely you mean you need a French IP address?

Such a thing can be done by using a VPN set to France. If you don’t already use one you (or don’t want to subscribe to one) it might be worth finding a friend who can let you use theirs to carry out the necessary log in.

Correct. I used a VPN with the location set to France so my IP appeared French to the Ursaff site. There may be another way to do it, but that’s the only one that worked for me.
