Impossible Firestick

Since the loss of Astra 28.2 coverage, I decided to activate the Firestick that I bought in the UK a couple of years ago. Despite having a VPN I am unable after 5 attempts, including total reset via Amazon .co.uk, to get past a message telling me that I’m not in the UK. I have an Amazon.co.uk account registered at my stepsons address in the UK. I’m ready to chuck the Firestick in the BBQ unless someone can help me.

What VPN do you have? Amazon is decent at bypassing most of them.

A message on which app, or is it the firestick itself?

I use Windscribe VPN on Amazon Firestick, and Amazon believes the Firestick is in the uk.

The message was on the tv screen when trying itvx. A similar message on my laptop screen telling me to close my VPN.

My VPN is part of the Ultimate Security programme with Avast

ITV X is generally recognised as a pretty awful app and seems to be difficult with VPNs. Which one are you using?

I’m using Avast VPN as part of their ‘Ultimate Security’ package.

I get the same message whatever I try to access, I-Player, BBC News, ITVX. All tell me I’m using VPN and to switch it off.

Seems like Avast isn’t great for this. Did you try connecting to different servers in the UK?

If all the services are telling you that using a VPN has been detected and is disallowed you need a different VPN

I think Avast is a privacy focussed VPN not one to avoid geoblocking. It’s one of those all in one security packages - like McAfee. Didn’t think it worked on a Fire stick - have you actually installed it on the Fire stick or your router?

My prog. doesn’t give the optio of choosing a different UK server, on a different country.

Thats the problem; your VPN should be able to choose a location in the Uk in order to receive -‘uk only’ channels…
however sometimes iplayer is a different animal…

Avast VPN is installed on my laptop only, which is where I registered my Firestick password.

It’s a bugger, but I can live without it.

Ah, that’ll be a problem then. You need to install the VPN client on the Firestick itself, so all the traffic goes via the VPN client.

A few of us use different VPN vendors. If you search there’s another thread about which ones we use successfully (Surf Shark in my case).

Agree but curious that the error message referred to a VPN being in use.

So, the device is associated with your Amazon UK account. Try unlinking it and associating it with an Amazon fr account. I bought a new one recently from Amazon.fr but it kept associating itself with my other two Firesticks on Amazon.co.uk. I muddled my way through all this rubbish, AGAIN. Also, if you want to watch programmes from the UK, make sure the time zone is set to UK, Some apps just use that (Ch 4) to decide if you are in the UK or not.

All this is rights shit driven. Corporate lawyers don’t half screw the world up. I’ve only worked with one really good one (Hi Fiona :slightly_smiling_face:) during my professional career. A few others were average to mediocre, but most were rubbish. Little business prevention units all on their own.

I guess that’s why politics is peppered with lousy, failed lawyers. If Trump really wanted to make America great again he should deport 90% of the lawyers, not people doing real jobs ,like washing cars or picking fruit.
