Rubbish, I’ve read, listened to all the info.

BUT, it changes.

I’m glad you listened to all the info… 'cos just sometimes your posts do not make that clear… :upside_down_face: :zipper_mouth_face:

New advice from the WHO.

“People over 60 or with health issues should wear a medical-grade mask when they are out and cannot socially distance, according to new guidance from the World Health Organization, while all others should wear a three-layer fabric mask.”

I love it… clear guidance…

will these “all others” wear a mask… mmm… that is a good question… :zipper_mouth_face:

According to the Wolrd Health Organisation (WHO) people over 60 or with health issues should wear a medical-grade mask when they are out and cannot socially distance, according to new guidance from the World Health Organization, while all others should wear a three-layer fabric mask.

WHO changes its advice.

Stella, if you want to rsik your life and your families lives, please ignore what the WHO says.

There is NO clear, unequivocable quidance, only best practice.

Yes, Grahame… you’ve already said that…

I was not disagreeing with you…

I was merely musing over whether or not folk will follow this “guidance”…

by the way… does the WHO suggest how to ensure that all 60+ and folk with health issues actually do have the medical masks which the WHO is suggesting… ???

I couldn’t find that bit of information, but might well have missed it.

cheers

Stella has consistently said on this site that she advocates the wearing of masks including in previous conversations with you above. Why would you now think she is implying the opposite?

The new WHO guidance, announced on Friday (5th June 2020), is a result of research commissioned by the organisation. It is still unknown whether the wearers of masks are protected, say its experts, but the new design it advocates does give protection to other people if properly used.

The WHO says masks should be made of three layers – with cotton closest to the face, followed by a polypropylene layer and then a synthetic layer that is fluid-resistant. These are no substitute for physical distancing and hand hygiene, it says, but should be worn in situations where distancing is difficult, such as on public transport and at mass demonstrations.

Far more stringet specifications than previous guidance for non-medical masks.

Grahame… I think opinion has always been that the “general public” masks are to be worn by the General Public to stop the virus spreading… not to stop the catching of it … in other words… (as I have tried to explain on several occasions…)
the General Mask wearer stops their own “snot/whatever” escaping… and if everyone of the General Public were to wear such a general mask… each would keep their own “snot/whatever” to themselves. yippee

Stella,

You are absolutely right.

BUT, if people don’t wear masks they WILL risk infecting others.

So wear a mask to protect your friends/neighbours.

Simples,

Grahame Pigney

P Help save paper - please don’t print this email unless you really need to.
P Sauvegardons la planète. Avez-vous vraiment besoin d’imprimer cet e-mail?

:hugs: that’s what I have been doing… all along … Grahame…

cheers

FFS @anon65742194 will you please remove that signature from your email? both @Peter_Goble and myself have asked you on more than one occasion. I’m sure there are many others just as pissed off with it.
People these days generally do not print off emails unless they need to and it is their decision. I doubt that people print off things they don’t need to given the price of ink cartridges and if they need to keep them they will store them in their email client.
People don’t need to be told things that are plainly obvious and are more savvy than you give them credit for.

Latest from the BBC about the WHO U-turn on masks.

"This is a big shift in the WHO’s guidance on when the public should cover their faces.
For months, the organisation’s experts stuck to the line that masks would encourage a false sense of security and would deprive medical professionals of badly needed protective equipment.*
Those arguments have not gone away but at the same time the WHO acknowledges that new evidence has emerged on the risks of transmission.
It points to recent research that people can be highly infectious in the few days before they show symptoms and that some people catch the virus but never show symptoms at all.
So where distancing isn’t possible, such as on public transport and in locations as varied as shops and refugee camps, it’s suggested that faces are covered with homemade masks to avoid passing on the infection.
Over 60s with underlying health conditions should go further, the WHO said, and wear medical-grade masks to give themselves better protection."

Since one of the “underlying health conditions” that are known to increase likelihood of getting COVID-19 is obesity, I should think that means most over 60s in the Western world should be wearing medical-grade masks. And I wonder where the WHO suggests all the over 60s should be getting these masks?
“Experts” - God help us!

Aren’t the disposable masks now sold in every supermarket medical grade? Ok not the highest medical grade, but they are basic surgical masks.

My son and his girlfriend took me to a restaurant last night as today’s Mothers Day.
Once sat down you take your masque off and waitress arrives in masque and sends the menu to your smart phone by you scanning a barcode.
The tables were very well spaced the atmosphere was extremely jolly. People were further away from me than in the supermarket ! Three of his 24 yr old friends poped round to see him later as he lives in Toulouse and his first words to them was please don’t fait la bises a ma mere! They all waved politely and sat at a table in the garden.
