Insect bite creams recommendations

Seem to be more biting insects this year so wondered if people have any preferred bite creams?

Sudocrem - I buy it on line

We used Onctose, got it from the pharmacy in France. It’s brilliant, you only need a little bit on the bite area, one tube last. It does contain hydrocortisone but not a huge quantity. I’m prone to attracting biting things so it’s great to have around. I’m glad you asked as you’ve reminded me to see if I can get some in the UK.

Whilst not a cream, we spray them with " Biseptine Spray Antiseptique 100ml". The best antiseptic spray we have ever used on any part of ya body in our time on this planet

…have you tried these electric ‘bite-away’ thingy?..supposed to be effective if you use them soon after being molested.

Other than that, as @Debby_Wade suggests, Onctose works quite well.

Prevention/deterrent is better. I bought some Avon skin so soft dry oil spray (as used and recommended by the SAS big softies🤣), seems to do the job.

I 100% recommend this

Speaking as a midge magnet, I find Apaisyl gel to be very effective. If an anti-histamine hit is required, Cétirizine is a once-a-day tablet that starts to work within 30 minutes.

I use a combination of Dapis stick, smells wonderful and Sedermyl.
To stop midge bites from itching, especially at night when you get warm in bed, cover the bite tightly with elastoplast.

Me too. One of the best things I’ve bought in a long time.

I initially bought something called Zap-It which gave a tiny electric shock… It worked in the short term but overall was not very effective.

I since bought the same device that @Susannah linked. It doesn’t give an electric shock but instead heats up a small ceramic disc. It works way better on mozzie bites than the Zap-It did.

In Turks and Caicos I used Benadryl cream but I think that’s an American thing.

Currently I use Tea Tree Oil in a cream, can’t recall where I got it.

Absolutely the doggies doodas but they dont make it any more/import it any more. Have about 1/4 of a tube left and only used on the very worst bites

Being ex SAS (single and sexy ) I have some with me but it did not disuade some of the little sods. Its unusual for me to get bitten, happened a lot in years gone by but since quitting sugar hardly ever. However this year is different, whether its the horses next door, the red top fly traps are doing a really great job or just another seasonal thing.

Thanks for the suggestions all, off to the shops later so will call in at the pharmacie with the suggestions mentioned :+1:

That’s weird as we seem to have a lot less. Probably because next door got rid of their Geese and the large open water container for them.

Coincidentally, I learned in this article yesterday that Sudocrem was invented in Dublin and the Little Museum of Dublin has an unopened jar of Sudocrem from 1931 on display there.

Sorry if someone already mentioned this. For bites that itch or are swollen, Cortapaisil is very good. The pharmacy advised us only to use it in the evening, I’m not sure why. And tea tree oil works.

Just ordered it. If you don’t like Amzn you can order it from Boulanger and save the postage if you can pick it up in the shop.

Been told its back in some Tesco shops phamacies
