IRM appointment

I am trying to get an appointment for IRM, without success!
I have telephoned most radiography depts in and around Perigueux and even tried Angouleme (16) Only one has actually answered the phone, but they need to see the prescription first! Unfortunately I cannot get out for the next ten days!
Just needed to vent :astonished: sorry.

Hi Lily,
I took a copy and posted mine. Is there no-one that can post it for you?
They will reply with an appointment - I got a letter back very quickly with all the scanner info and date.

This was a couple of years ago for me. They might accept an email attachment now? Worth asking.

Some of us use our brains  that did not occur to me
Did you send it to Clinique de Franchville, did you have a long wait for the appointment?
I can just give it to postie tomorrow. Email would be so much easier, I could get through on the phone!
Thanks xx

The last time one of us had to have an IRM we just took our prescription with us. this is in Macon.

My appointment was at Le Centre Hospitalier de Périgueux and Jane is right on the day of the scan whatever you do don’t forget the ordonnance/ prescription!
I honestly can’t remember how long I had to wait for the appointment - Sorry :woman_shrugging:t3: But in any case that would probably have no bearing on the demand or possible delays now.

Jane, I read your reply as just walking in sans rendevous.
Tracey, always take take the ordonnance.

Oh no, you have to make an appointment, but we did not have to send a copy of our prescription beforehand.

You’re lucky…
Maybe here in the Dordogne they had too many instances where people booked appointments without having seen their MT and getting an ordonnance?
There may also be a high demand for this very expensive bit of equipment here, so they are trying to weed out possible timewasters.

Actually, I went to a hospital out of my Department… armed with my MRI prescription and the Secretary was happy to make me an appointment for an MRI (and not in the dim and distant future like my home Dept Hosp was offering).

I explained that their Hospital was nearer to my home and asked if they minded me border-hopping. No problems, I was told. Phew… this was a couple of years ago, perhaps things are different now… but for anyone in a similar situation - why not give it a whirl…

If I need to take a rendevous for something new to me, then I prefer to speak face to face to make sure nothing gets lost in translation.
Unfortunately time and circumstances are against me this time.

Nice to ‘see’ you Stella, I was just wondering where you were

Been away… glad to be home :hugs:

I can’t help wondering if ,especially with the large amount of tourist/ holiday home owners around the Dordogne ,people have been booking scans because they feel they need one rather than a doctor prescribing one and trying to take advantage of the French health system

You can’t, AFAIK, get an MRI, (or even an IRM😉) without an ordnance from your MT or specialist.

What I meant was (responding to Tracey’s point ) are people trying to book appointments without a prescription. They then turn up and without a prescription won’t be scanned , but that very expensive slot is wasted so the operators now want to see proof before they make an appointment

Mary… whenever I speak over the phone… (for any medical stuff)…the first thing I am asked is if I have a prescription or not and I am asked to read out what the prescription says…and which Doc has given it…

Unless folk are lying, they will not be offered an appointment without a prescription…

Edit: sorry to suggest folk “lie” but sometimes enthusiasm/desperation might make folk try a shortcut…

It’s always been that way. We only have one MRI machine in the Creuse, in Gueret, and there’s no way to get an appointment without them seeing the prescription first.

Okay .I am in the Uk so not 100% on how it works in France, I picked up on a point of Tracey’s saying perhaps people were trying to book appointments without prescriptions

Exactly… and perhaps a good reason for folk to try and get an appointment out of Dept… well worth having a go.

Of course, it does depend on the urgency. Sadly, most of my bits are “urgent”… :zipper_mouth_face:

Don’t worry Stella people try to play the system all the time.
