Le Pen polling figures

Being unable to vote (not that it would make a lot if difference) we’ll just have to wait and see. Whether its a far left or a far right win, life will continue and we’ll just have to deal with it.

Right wing populists deliver their version of law and order as we have seen in the US. Which is neither abiding/applying the law or delivering order.

Welcome, @INGRID1 .

Do you have a connection with, or knowledge of, France which would allow you to expand on your opinion? From what I know, there is very little correspondence between US and French politics.

Frightening innit?

We can usually rely on France’s voting system, and voting for who you don’t want in the 2nd round, keeping the Le Pen out but if it’s between Melenchon and Le Pen… sheesh… never mind this thread, I think I’d try to live on mute!

As far as i am aware right wingers are the same whether in France, the US or South Africa or Germany! The application of policing is always brutal and it’s against their citizens. Although having said that I have found the UK police under Starmer particularly harsh against people protesting against Israeli action in Gaza.

Seems to me right-wingers speak (shout) a lot about nationality and law & order, but they have far more in common with right wingers in different countries than they do with different groups in their own country.
Trump & Putin, have more in common with each other, than either does with ordinary citizens in their own country. The same applies with Farage and Le Pen. More interested in advancing the interests of multi national companies (and their owners) than any national fellow citizens.

Like many scoundrels with a history of financial sleaze they resort to patriotism.

Perhaps you should expand your awareness a little more.

It would be a VERY long discussion!

But to reduce the explanation to include a general suppression of political opposition, whether formal or informal, (see UK police action towards Palestine action, and generally protecting social hierarchies, which these days usually means the big tech boys!

France very much tolerates public protest but unfortunately it gas become increasingly muddied by different players, whether this is your ususl opportunistic thug, or foreign players interfering and this interference is very real.

Whether heavy handed police crack downs on citizens is the answer or to tackle the problem in other ways must surely be the debate.

I’d be very interested to know what you mean by this and where your information came from.

These riots need to be stopped and the longer Macron prevaricates, the more support he loses.

He was very wishy washy in his speech last evening.

150 people were arrested by the police outside a Labour Party Conference 3 weeks ago. Those detained were arrested for carrying signs reading, “I support Palestine Action” and “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action,” under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000, which makes it a crime to support a proscribed organisation.

And i don’t kniw if you are at all interested but this article appeared in The Guardian about vehickes destined to help the french stop immigrants from crossing the channel turned up in Paris during the protests/riting/looting:

If you can’t do the time, don’t commit the crime.

Certainly don’t whine about being arrested when that was your sole reason for making a placard.

Simple, really.

And it’s pretty cheap to blame the police for maintaining the law.

Are you American, by any chance?

Yikes!

Holding a placard, in your view is worthy of arrest? Yikes!

Depends what’s on the placard.

Not what @Porridge said though, not as I read them anyway. I read it more about being an awareness of what the law was, rights or wrongs aside. I’m broadly of the same opinion; if you know what the law is then you cant really be surprised if it’s used against you, whatever you might think of it.

My analogy : don’t tell a bouncer that they’re thick. You know what could happen.

It’s okay.

Apparently, there are plenty of parts of the UK which the police treat as a no-go area. You’re okay carrying there.

Stop the genocide in Gaza.

Sounds like you might be American or pro Israel.

“Apparently”? According to whom are there no-go areas in the UK?
Yes, I have heard of US politicians, and others making those allegations, but seen nothing credible in support.
