I read this back in 1988 when it came out. A very enjoyable read, you might like it too. Readily available on EBay for a few quid. I didn’t find the sequel as good.

What you do is click on the person’s avatar and in the panel that opens you will see a big blue button top right with ‘Message’ written across it. What opens then is a panel for you to write your private message in. Beware though, it doesn’t look anything different to a normal post and you could forget yourself and think you are in the public forum.

Only an Umlaut for German, for nous les français it’s a tréma 
do you have to do complicated things to get them using an English keyboard?
