Lot-et-Garonne CPAM cancelling category S1 Cartes Vitales 31/12/20. Other depts likely to follow

As Fabien says… this is an estimation…
In the hypothetical situation where UK reneges on the S1s…

which we are all hoping is just a hiccup…

The UK is not reneging on the S1. This is a local hiccough caused by a local CPAM office acting incorrectly.

Nope nope nope… this is a reciprocal agreement, the UK provides French citizens for free NHS and therefore France provides the CPAM to Biritsh citizens for free. Let’s be honest, the median age (and the average as well for the mathematicians out there  ) age of British expats is much higher than French expats in the UK as most French would go there for work and British come here mostly to retire so the expenditures are massively more important (social security’s wide). As France cannot and doesn’t claim on those extra expenses I consider this to be “for free” but I’m definitely not against it, at the contrary

Gracious… I did not realize that the monies were not claimed by each country…

apologies for my mistake… :relaxed: :relaxed:

makes me feel more comfortable about France “holding my hand” if my S1 fails me…

Quite, Fabien, I understand the imbalance to be rather large…! :open_mouth:

But as far as I’m concerned I consider this a win from a French perspective… there may be some imbalance in regard to SS but most Brits (just me using that word for lack of a better one - no offence meant) come to the countryside and buy massive semi abandoned homes or barns or mills or even castles and redecorate these beautiful buildings / properties. Just thanks to that you deserve a bright spot in France, you’re helping part of the French “patrimoine” to stay alive and that’s no small feat… If we also add the fact that you’re also buying stuff from French local businesses then I wouldn’t see how we can not consider that situation as a massive win (still from a French perspective)…

Oh, and… cherry on the pie… from a French perspective (still the same angle, I must have a huge bias :joy: ) you are also quite exotic :stuck_out_tongue: (and as a French representative I can confirm we like exotic  )

Well pointed out, Fabien, although I don’t really fit in to your description, but plenty do

ah ah… but you’re still exotic don’t forget that

If you hold a UK S1, your healthcare costs sre paid by the UK not by France.
If you neither hold an S1 nor work in France you may still qualify to join PUMA and potentially pay cotisations. But if your income is low and therefore you pay very little or no contributions, France would in effect be providing you with free healthcare.

I also got this…but continued with conection and it open my account ok. Checked my attestation and it runs a year from today…so obviously no renewal needed here in Cotes D’Armor

I opened mine as well… today… same as all week… it’s only giving me until the end of this year…
and no, I’m not in Lot et Garonne which is where Sue is having problems… I’m in a different department…

I simply posted the screensave to show that Ameli are working on their computers and it might… .just might… be because of a hiccup…

ha ha, in the same way as my OH and kids think everything’s exotic in the UK!

I live in Wales but I also lived and worked I France for fourteen years. I had a letter from the CPAM a few days ago asking me to update my Carte Vitale to one with a photograph. I have just received a letter asking for me to send a copy of my S1 . It all seems very confusing !

Oh my… how did they find you … ???.. perhaps they expect you to be moving back to France   or they might not even know you’ve gone…

as you say… it’s all very confusing…

Latest on-line message from Lot-et-Garonne. (I had gone back to the helpline staff and asked them to contact their “expert” M. Giordan, Olivier. who had confirmed to a friend of ours that the date was an "anomaly ".)

This is what I have just received from CPAM:

Bonjour,
Si vos droits sont illimités sur le formulaire E121, nous allons mettre
à jour votre dossier au delà du 31/12/2020.

Avec toute notre attention,
ETCHENIQUE ODILE

that sounds like good news…

Tell me how?

Interesting… what is an E121 and is it different to an S1 and who is provided with one?

Incidentally… I must admit to making a mistake… yes, it does happen…

Code Gestion: 70 (on an Attestation)

simply means that Health Care cost is covered by another country which has “agreements” with France…

Of course UK falls into this category and I had said/thought that 70 meant UK…
In fact it does mean all/any country which has said agreement…

sorry if I’ve confused anyone…

:relaxed:

this sort of thing happens when someone points to 70 and blithely says… UK covers you…  … which is what happened to me…

According to the NHS the S1 supersedes the E121. They are one and the same - except layout etc. I am assuming that 13 years ago we were provided with E121 forms. Nowhere on the current S1 does it say that our healthcare is either “limited” or “unlimited”. The wording of the current form is:
This is you and your family members’ certificate of entitlement to sickness, maternity, and equivalent paternity benefits in kind (i.e. healthcare, medical treatment, etc) in your State of residence.

So, do I go back to her and just say “it is unlimited”? In which case, I expect she will say “prove it”. which I can’t. In fact if there is a non deal Brexit it won’t be unlimited.

I get the feeling I am just being given the run around. I’m going back to the mowing while the sun’s out and I’ll compose a reply later on the lines of “of course it’s unlimited, prove that it’s not”.
