Based on my last, before I retired, graduate appointments I would rate ETH Zürich first followed by l’École polytechnique and then University of Nottingham. My assessment would be based on intelligence and life experience.
I think le baccalauréat results in a more rounded person than the results driven UK system. Knowing ETH, you have to be good to survive.

Portadown is due to firstly, sneaky throwbacks in the Orange order, followed by previous and current incompetence in the Parades Commission, incompetence in the advice they received from the PSNI (now revised) and a total wimp and ignorant NI secretary.
There is only one reason for this march (there are circa 2,500 other Orange order marches per annum in NI, they are not short of marches) which is to piss off the local community.
In France and Spain the politicians have ignored real concerns and it has boiled over. The idiots keep doing this which the far right latches onto, because, like immigration, they are real issues, and everything blows up. That’s why I think we’ll end up with Le Pen next year.

It’s great stuff that Burnham has recognised the elephant in the room and rejoin is now on the agenda. However all the sweetheart deals Maggie negotiated (probably the one thing I respected her for) are gone. No derogations, no rebate and IMO no sterling . Now if you want to join the EU it’s euros all the way. I hope the EU sticks to that. The death of sterling, the currency of tax avoidance, would only be boon to the World.

My point in so far as I have one ,is that agitators home in on a real gripe and then hone the grievance ..They don’t need to make things up ..just amplify them
You’re right Dan. But so far our politicians are doing a fine job screwing things up on their own. If and when Putin gets involved… well that may be a whole different story.
BTW, lunch today with old French friends. They support the protests, but not the violence. Just like my original post on this topic. Things are shit and nothing is being done about it

I hope the protests today don’t descend into violence. Perhaps the presence of teachers and parents will be enough to discourage the agitators. Whatever happens, a big ‘stay safe’, to Toryroo and all of you that have kids at school.

I saw on the news last night that the parents of those arrested for damages etc will have their wages garnished by certain amounts monthly and if on benefits, those will be less or completely revoked. Any incomes coming into these people’s homes will be examined for reimbursements to the state etc.
