Staff shot at school in France - as pupil detained

When you tell people in the UK that this can happen in France as a result of the reach of digital control, some are surprised. Eventually the same will happen in the UK, and we can only hope that the Pied Piper won’t be in charge.

We Luddites are scoffed at, with our refusal to freely give data and to engage in technophilia, but at least we are not ourselves building the scaffolds they are going to drop us from.

I’m confused, are you suggesting that without “digital control” whatever that might mean, it would be impossible to track down the parents of a teenage miscreant and take action against them?

Who is the Pied Piper? You don’t need technology to find out who parents are of a minor who has been arrested, that has been going on since Adam was a lad. As for details of their incomes etc they would have to be interviewed most likely over their child’s bad behaviour and give it freely. We had an employee here many years ago now who refused to pay his Taxes d’Habitation and Foncières and the local Trésor Public wrote to my OH to ask for part of his monthly wage to be paid direct to them until he cleared his debt. I presume they got the name of his employer from URSSAF but that could have been just a phone call. Eventually as you say, technology will rule and we will have no choice.

No, what I mean is, an extension of this could be instant suspending bank a/c’s for political control. Eg directly by a magistrate/police authority etc under so-called “terrorist” rules. The Pied Piper has already said there will be a State of Emergency.

When your forbears under Stalinism have had a knock on the door at 3am and by the end of that day are in a freezing cattletruck to Siberia you understand why giving away the keys to freedom are such a pressing and serious matter.

Timothy Snyder did his best to explain this to the Brexiters, but their intellects didn’t quite stretch to it.

Pied Piper = Farage

Do you think that’s not possible today?

It’s been possible ever since banks were first a thing, though Kings and Queens quickly learned The Golden Rule (the folks with the gold make the rules) and trod carefully where the banks were concerned.

The difference is the reach and speed available now.

Sorry not clear about the link to Brexit.

I hope none of you get caught up in today’s protests. France has its problems, same as many countries, but it looks very like outside influences keeping the pot boiling.

Interesting, what outside involvements?

Those of us here on residency terms need to steer clear of any trouble as it would be easy to get caught up and then face serious consequences which could terminate said CDS or worse! Too many outside masked troublemakers involved whereas true manifest ants would not need to cover their faces.

Putin for sure . Look ! sowing unrest and making it a riot is a relatively easy activity. Whenever I see things like this I ask myself who benefits ?

Is there any actual evidence of this? Any at all, can you share it?

And if they were, what about personal responsibility for one’s own actions? I doubt any of the rioters are actually Russian.

It seems all a little too easy now to blame any home grown problems on Russia,

Even Burnham had to back peddle massively on this just the other day.

There are plenty of people out there that love to cause chaos and the internet makes it all too easy.

Yes . The amount of such online nonsense dropped significantly after Ukraine damaged server farms in Russia.

So why are there rioting in France today?

I know someone from the old Left in France who predicted (not unique in that of course) 2 or 3 years ago what you are seeing now. Neoliberalism has hit the buffers in many ways (eg climate crisis, world debt crisis/banker hegemony etc) but in France my understanding is that there is still belief that being a French citizen in a society has a status they do not accept to be further eroded. Contrast with 1979 &c and Thatcher, who said there was no such thing as society, in her Hobbesian/Randian project with Reagan, the results of which we are burdened with now.

In Britain the right wing establishment mobilised to crush the Unions, who spearheaded resistance, and the British people have never found a cohesive response strong enough to force any real change once their industrial power was dispensed with along with the industries which employed them.

You light a fuse and walk away it’s not something switched on or off . When you shout Fire in a theatre it doesn’t matter if three minutes later you say ."Sorry , my bad., it was only a match. They are no longer listening. Provoking dissent is a bit longer than hitting the on switch but the money is well spent
