Midges - Avon Skin So Soft?

Allegedly, the Royal Marines on the Clyde have an Avon account for this very reason.

Just ordered it. Sitting at supper just now, I’ve been bitten 4 times!

I heard a different reason but I’m saying nothing.

You need to apply it for it to be effective.

Hence “allegedly”

Have you tried it? @SuePJ let us know if it works for you. I got about 8 bites last evening

Its award winning was for sustainable development nothing about actual efficacy, so will wait to hear. Meanwhile skin so soft still seems to work reasonably well. Difficult to be sure how well after an insect magnet years gone by, often returning to the UK with those swollen bumps as memories of France. Having quit almost all sugars I dont seem to be as tasty to biting insects these days.

I find Icognito works well, as does Skin So Soft but the latter doesn’t last so long and needs repeated spritzes.

For those odd villains that find the unprotected bit of skin, I find this works wonders

I don’t know how but it takes away the itch and allergic overreaction if used right away. A handy pocket sized one is useful for on-the-go.

Lidl has those online and occasionally there’s an offer that reduces the price - I got my 2nd one on there for 17 euros a month or two ago on a reduction offer as if the 1st one packs up, I want a backup.

Under their brand Sanitas much of which is Beurer. One of the various product numbers it’s had over time SANITAS Appareil pour soulager les piqĂ»res d’insectes

Feedback on the black option found on Amazon - apparently the only difference other than the black colour which will make it hard to find in your bag, car, or possibly home or garden if you drop it - is the black one has a light. Feedback is, it’s not needed.

I found I had to start with only the 3 seconds option on a new bite at first as it’s quite strong - now all bites get 6 seconds asap as bitten if poss and it’s really good. Turns the time back to normal skin from 3 or 4 days or even more to about 2 days or less due to removing the urge to scratch.

I think I must be distasteful to the little buggers as I hardly ever experience such problems. But on Friday evening I did get an itchy little red spot and all weekend I had the Grippe, Covid, or Denge fever, couldn’t make up my mind which so I just downed loads of lemonjuice and honey in boiling water and by this morning, apart from a resurgent sore throat, it was all gone.

Mind you the cure was dangerous because I scalded my fingers in the middle of Friday night returning from the kitchen to bed delicately holding the tumbler with both hands on the rim and base,. I suddenly got a coughing fit and splashed my fingers while desperately aiming for the table in the dark to put it down as fast as I could.

Went out today with a warm coat on but before I got to the coffeeshop I took it off and was down to shirtsleeves. I thought I had a fever 'till everyone assured me it was a very warm day.

You’d have thought that would’ve made me attractive to them, but as they aren’t there, or the other 2 ponds, maybe you’re right.

Now 15 euros on lidl.fr the insect bite calmer/itch avoider/healing shortener (seems to be the Beurer device more usually available 23 - 28 euros or so).

Satisfyingly, the Germans are still paying more (18 euros).

Type in product number 100373266 on lidl.fr

You could afford to keep an eye on it for a week or two in case a free shippng offer appears (usually 5 per order).

Less than I’ve paid for it twice and still happy with it.

Do they actually work well as was almost devoured yesterday by mozziesđŸ˜±

Yes. It’s not a preventive - but mitigates the results for most bites if you get bitten. Key to use it promptly on the bite and above all before you scratch the bite.

I wouldn’t be without mine.

Tomorrow 26th June is the start of the official France summer sale season - so you might find other stuff wih decent reductions as well - sales season runs 4 weeks till 23 July incl.

Thanks for that - appreciated :+1:

I let the dog out this evening and got bitten on the back of the knees being a bit hot and sweaty as I was having a shower next instead of before going outside and the skin so soft would have worn off hours earlier.

Does it only work for midges or mozzies as well?

Seems good for both, obvious caveat, to a degree. We had our first actual buzzing femail mozzie in last night, must have snuk in when I walked through the mesh screen drapes. The UV light took care of it though. this morning put out to ant bait traps as we seem to have a problem developing. Dont want to use something the dog or cat could get to.
